Im thinking about upgrading my component speakers, since our factory ones leave a lot to be desired. I have a modest budget of about 50bucks that I would like to stay within for the front two speakers.
Im looking for something with good clarity and good bass response, to compliment the two 10in subs I have in the trunk. Any recommendations? -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

you can do what i did and upgrade to an 8' sub but you dont want to put to much bass in the car cause it shakes to much and it will burn your tweeters if you have them if not you can look into powerbassusa.com and see what they have cause i got two 6' for 75 from a friend of mine and if you find them cheeper than thats great.

Definitely save up some more cash and do it right. Do you plan on amplifying the speakers or running off the deck?

are you looking for component speakers? or just two speakers for the door? cuz for 50 it might be a bit hard to find something superbly awesome the two components in the front. im not looking for the best speaks in the world, just something better than stock. there are tons of options from mb quart, kicker, etc... for that price range that would blow the factory ones out of the water. im just looking for opinions to see what the best bang for the buck is in that price range. i normally like the mb quart stuff a lot, but i dont know how their lower end products compare to the stuff ive heard. Definitely save up some more cash and do it right. Do you plan on amplifying the speakers or running off the deck? im going to run them from my alpine deck. should be more than plenty for what i want. W/O an amplifer, Alpine SPS-600 and Kenwood kfc-x172 were the best 2-way's I listened to, alpine being the best.

I've got 6.5" Kenwood 1680ie in doors and 6.5" Sony XPlodes in the rear, running off my Alpine CDA-9886. I've got 2 10" MTX subs in the back running off an ancient ass MTX Thunder amp. I also started with the front speakers; they were a gift, but I believe they ran somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-$60. I'm quite sure you could find them on Amazon within that price range. I bought the Sony XPlode speakers for the rear used for $25 for the pair, and am very happy with them as well.
I will tell you that it'll definitely make a difference to upgrade your front speakers first, but you'd be surprised at just how much acoustic comes from the rear speakers. My Kenwoods in the front really aren't super great for bass, but they're very good for mids and into the highs. The Sony XPlodes are good for the mids and lows, so it all balances out pretty well for a budget setup, and definitely works very well with my deck. -------------------- |

Man I really have nothing to offer here - I have never spent under $150 for these components. I can say that I have had several leading brands and the only ones that I am fully pleased with are my current Boston Acoustics but they are nearly 5x the price you want to spend.
I just can't see anybody making a new component set for $50 that would be worth buying at all. -------------------- ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them. If you're 100% sure you're not gonna amplify your speakers I suggest listening to some Alpine type S's. They sound very good unamped. Otherwise like Death said you gonna have to spend real money to get to the next level of sound quality, and those speakers require amplifiers.
x2 for Bostons components. |

i have infinity reference components and they work great... mind you...i paid 250 300 dollars for them if i recall.....but they sound so good.....i listen to alot of metal and heavy rock and when the drums hit and the symbols its amazing...good ballance from highs and lows....also real clear vocals..... takes alot before they start to destort also...my deck is almost maxed out when they start to get like that.....but at that point you can't be in the car any ways because your ears will bleed

I have these in my doors. They are great. I just saved the tweeter and crossover. In the back you use it all and drill a hole 1.5 inch or so in the plastic, great sounding. It is actually called a mid bass. If you put a kicker or full bass in that spot you would not have midrange tones. This post has been edited by xrav22: Jul 3, 2009 - 1:09 PM |

for what you are looking for Kicker will do the job and last a long time,
I had my audio set-up completely build with kicker components, bottom of the line kicker and it was clear and loud enough, yes guys not as clear as some of your thousands of dollars audio systems but it was perfect for enjoying the music without getting into how many watts, and what db I was pushing, or trophies and all that jazz lol -------------------- |

my buddy is about to trade in his evo so im hoping to be able to get either his kickers or factory evo speakers. ill see if that works out or not.
i got a set of used oem tweeters and woofers (from some random car) with new polk audio crossovers from 95stcelica. i installed one of the tweeters and it actually sounded better than the stock one. then i went to wire up the second one, only to find out the tweeter is dead. sucks. our stock speakers are actually really really good... but age and wear tends to leave them sounding like garbage... they run about $200 a speaker... alpine makes some great aftermarket speakers... type s's are ok but for component step up to the type-r, just a few more bucks and well worth it... you can usually get last years model pretty cheap too

The highs are nowhere to be found, there is no bottom end, everything in the middle lacks clarity. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
