Hijack threads???

This thread was a few weeks old. I had a very similar problem as he did. I used the search option, and this was the closest thread I could find to my symptoms. I would think it would be better to post in a thread that is related to the matter than to make a new one...

I don't trust ebay gaskets you don't want to cheap out on the head gasket heres the part number for 5sfe metal head gasket 11115-74120 don't forget to get new head bolts too.

Has anyone actually done this before?

To both people with this problem:

You need to diagnose the problem before you go wasting a bunch of time and money replacing parts at random.

The easiest test is the internal leak test. Read this and see "internal leak test":

My head gasket was caused from a leaky water pump, caused rear main oil seal to go mamaries up. Spent the last three days under the hood and ready to get it completed. My rad looks good. No leaks

i had juss replaced my radiator, also juss replaced my rear main seal because oil was shooting into the clutch. so basicly i had the rear main seal replaced and my clutch. so now my water pump is leaking and im guessing my head gasket had juss went.

FIXED!! smile.gif

So it turned out that it was indeed the head gasket, but went on too long so you had to replace the head as well? Did you have to replace your radiator as well?

Glad it's fixed though!

Yes, I replaced it a couple days ago..

I know the thermostat is newer, because I was there when the previous owner replaced it.

But I also know when he replaced the radiator, for some reason he also put stop leak in. Why he did it is beyond me.

I would say maybe the thermostat is sticking shut, but the lower hose feels like it is getting warm, although it isnt as warm as the top.

Could this cause it?

I have the metal head gasket, bolts, thermostat, thermostat gasket on the way from 1sttoyotaparts.com as well as a gasket kit for all other gaskets. I just wanted to have it just in case, but I want to make sure of what my problem is before I rip into it...

I'd suggest that perhaps that's your problem - the stop leak is clogging the radiator. If I were you I'd definitely start with the simple stuff like replacing the thermostat. It's SUPER cheap and SUPER easy to do. It's possible that even if it was replaced fairly recently, it was either put in incorrectly, or it's just a faulty part.

edit: oh wait, I just realized the post from 92-gt is like mad old. Oops.

Actually it was fixed last month. Part is head gasket, part of it is the actual head. The holes of the water jacket were corroded and the mechanic recommended to get a new head so I got one.

I replaced the radiator too! It was cracked due to too much pressure.

Water pump was replaced, oil pump seals and gasket, thermostat, timingbelt, idle tensioner pulleys, cam seals, bi-metal switching valve, pcv valve, rad hoses and other lil stuff.

So far in its 1st 1k miles it went pretty fine, drove 200 miles on a 90 degree day.

@ 185k, still a lot of things to fix! smile.gif
