I just did mine, it all depends on what you want to change. If you want to change all the button lights, it's 9 (8 if you don't want to change the defrost) I believe. (By the way, these are square LEDs, not the round ones.) And if you want to change the backlight, there are three original bulbs, and the defrost switch has it's own LED for backlight, so 4. All the bulbs are 12V, so you need resistors in there. It's a bit of work, and you need a bit of know-how. But all in all, you'll need about 13 LEDs, but I bought 20 and used them all because I made a bunch of mistakes.
I buy my LEDs from www.futurlec.com. They have good prices, and fairly cheap shipping. Good luck with the swap, and there are plenty of guides in case you get stuck. Check the FAQ sticky at the top of the Interior / Electrical forum. |

That site doesn't sell 74 style LEDs, as for the buttons, use 2x5mm Rectangular LEDs.
Check this thread, very useful. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=61249 |

I personally didn't use the 74 bulbs, either way you have to modify the bulb, the 74 is not a direct replacement.

those are white led's with blue glass... i made the mistake of buying those once... not even close to as good as a blue led.... and in my CC units... i use roughly 30 LED's, 3mm LED's work just fine

Also, those are 12v LEDs, the switches run 3v, if you put the 12v LEDs for the switches, they won't work.

Well, you need two different kinds. And either way, it's not a direct replacement. It took me 5 1/2 hours to do mine. For the LEDs on the switches you need 9 (but I would get like 20 incase you screw up) 2x5mm Rectangular 3v LEDs. For the backlights, you need 3 (once again, I would get more) 5mm 12v LEDs, or 5mm 3v LEDs with 470 resistors on each one.
Once again, read through that topic to learn some things. |
