Ok, so i have a St and really want to swap in a 4age. At first i wanted to find a 4agze, but that looks less and less realistic... How ever i think it would be awsome to turbo up a 4age and i see alot of kits for corollas with the same engine. Ive looked at cars like Coomers with the silvertop and theres alot of space there. I want to hear the fourums thoughts on the matter, anything besides "get a 3s-gte". Thanks!

people are going to tell you 3s-gte because frankly, to swap the 4a then do a turbo build your looking at double teh cost of a 3s-gte, even turboing a 5s cost just as much as a 3s-gte swap. all in all, you'll put more money into the 4a, but running reasonable boost it will be very reliable but not as much from a preformance stand as a 3s. there are 2-3 4a-gzte builds on the forums, (yea i said twin charged with an electronic clutch) but i havn't come across a 4a-gte celica, you would be unique tongue.gif

A turbo 4age is a great idea. You can get a 20v silver top for under 1000, swap out the pistons for 4agze pistons and you'll have a pefect daily driver turbo canidate. Mine's been running 15,000mi strong, problem free. You'll only be able to run about 7-8 psi boost but it honestly is a great setup that spools incredible fast.

That is exactly what i wanted to hear, and ive a whole bunch of corollas running the same thing were talking about.

GZE pistons will work in a 20V? Can those pistons accommodate the 3rd intake valve? I don't think they can.

for a turbo 4a
your BEST setup is to start with a 4agze engine ( comes with forged internals from factory ) some people swap the head for a blue top,. and a GT28RS turbo. if you put some more money on the setup and get cams and cam gears etc, you'll have a ~ 300 whp engine.
budget friendly ? 4agze engine, a turbo kit. call it done. that will get y ou somewhere ~ 250.

Valves have absolutely nothing to due with it, the blocks are identical thus the pistons are interchangable. The only reason to change the pistons is if your are seriuosly going to turbocharge it to lower compression and run more boost.

Well all of this is taking place over a period of time, the biggest concern is that its still daily drivable, im trying to zupe up a celi in a somewhat original way.

The stock 20v pistons have an additional scallop on the top of the piston for valve clearence. From what I have read
the gze pistons will work but the higher 8.9 to 1 compression version if used becomes interference when used with a 20v head
meaning if the timing belt breaks, bad news. The 8 to 1 is non interferencewith the 20v head.
I am starting a 16v 4agte project but I am not sure if it is going to end up in my celica or my 88 corolla gts.

How much power you think you can muster out of a 4agte..... I'm hoping to see you get like 250 whp while still maintaining great gas mileage. When you finish yours I will start my project... Hopefully by next spring. Keep Me posted.

Well that sounds good to me... I only run like 250 hp. That is more than enough for me... Once I finish my upgrades i am going to purchase a celica to modify just for shows...
