Hello to every fans here
I have i big problem with my Japanese Celica GT st202 3SGE engine with automatic tranasmision So today when i driven the car on highg RPM on 3th gear i heard a VERY LOUD sound like "KRRRRRR" and the hole car start to shake for a 2-3 second until i remove my step from the gaz! So after that i see on my left front side under the engine that the drive shaft or Drive axle - i don't know how you called it has damage into the CV or .... picture from the front left side of the car: just before the gear box: so please give me advice what to do?the car is still drivable but on high RPM its make this noise So please give me advice which part i need to find and what i need to change? Do you fink the part on the suspension on all celicas 6th generation are the same? you better check the actual cv as well it could be broken

you better check the actual cv as well it could be broken Cv Boot (that mangled piec of plastic u have in there) Should NOT look like that, should of been replacing along time ago, if its been like that for any period of time i suggest u repalce the entire CV-axle (drive shaft) |

Replace CV Boot, you need to inspect the axle as well too. I'm highly sure you will need to replace it, but with the symptoms you are saying, I will recommend you do.

Thanks yes i think to change the replace the hole axle with everithing... ..i see that the price at USA is very cheap but do you know the drive axles are the same on every celicas 6th generations becouse i see different part numbers for 1.8 and 2.2.cc and my car is japanese st202 2.0 ??? thanks -------------------- |

Hey cyprus gt, the 3sge driveshafts differ to both the 2.2 and 1.8. I own a jap ss11 3sge and had to replace a driveshaft due to two ripped boots leading to contaminated c.v joints.
Judging by the mess in your picture I'd say your boot has been ripped for a long time! And that noise your heard is you c.v screaming to be replaced, In fact I can see splines emerging here where I wouldn't expect them to be! If was you I would make sure that the c.v hasn't popped past the lock ring on the driveshaft by pulling on the shaft very firmly, if it moves out of the c.v joint at all do not drive this car! In fact I wouldn't recommend driving it anyway, because a c.v joint in as bad shape as this is dangerous. Especially considering something happened with enough force to shake the whole car! I found it very hard to find a new driveshaft for my car (being a jap import). So i bought a decent second hand one in a scrap yard and rebuilt it, (dismantled, cleaned, repacked with new grease, new boots) and it worked out well. (cost roughly 120 euro altogether) I would check all other C.V boots on your car as well, any sign of leaking grease, rips on the boot etc. means at least the boots need to be replaced, and possibly the joints to. Also be aware that driveshafts with ABS differ from non ABS (there is a ribbed spline on the abs one which the feeds the ABS sensor)

Thanks a lot to everibody, specialy to "m-i-m-m-"
so i just left the car an the local service and tomorrow they will change the hole drive axle with second hand one..here we have a lot of second hand japnese cars so they will find a good one...the new one in toyota dealer is more than 800 euro....and second hand is 80 euro...also will change all boots plus well gressed! Will write when the car is ready and i will make little race test on the highway ;-) CHEERS -------------------- |

Be aware that If you plan to replace the boots yourself, it requires that the driveshaft be dismantled, and so should to be done before it goes on the car!!! I only rebuilt it as a precautionary (the boots on the second hand axle I got looked a bit old) and I was doin the job myself.
If the garage is doing it for you happy days! |

and it fixed the problem? no more knocking? im having the same problem with my 96 gt auto. L. side as well. planning on buying a cv shaft this week.
