Hi guys, i was wondering if it would be possible to Delete my resonator, put the stock muffler (with modification) instead, and put a fireball exhaust(jdm style) in the place of the stock muffler...
because here in QUebec its illegal for us to have Louder muffler than original one, so if the sound is cutted by the stock one, then the second muffler will not make any noise? or a tiny tiny rumble??? Because i really like the look of the side up exhaust...But i dont want no ticket!!! If u have any suggestion i would really apreciate it!!! thanks! |

If u have any suggestion i would really apreciate it!!! thanks! resonator tones down the sounds, deleteing it will give u an annoying raspy sound, you would be better off chopping off your factory muffler and adapting the 1.75" piping to fit a 2.25" inlet JDM style muffler, its still going to be a little louder though |

and if IF keed my resonator, my stock muffler, and put a jdm pipe after??
I mean customizing all my exhaust line, but will i too much restriction, or it will be ok because those pipe are free flow |

You can get a silencer for you muffler unless its one of those that have a built in silencer that you can adjust, I have 2 mufflers on my accord and its freakin loud with those fart cannons although its a V6.

Yes, you can actually place a canister muffler after a straight-through resonator, then run the pipe out to a larger canister muffler in the back. Its done all of the time. Basically, it would go: Cat-resonator-muffler-muffler. It is the only way to supress the noise without having a negative effect on exhaust flow. Also with using a canister muffler under the car you can delete the resonator completely without getting a raspy sound. If you re-read before flying off the handle you would see that I said you can delete the resonator, so long as you're using a straight through muffler under the car (that means two mufflers).

I was thinking about that and i dont wanna spend money customizing all my exhaut line juste to make it quieter without adding perfomance !!
I will see how the car sounds when ill remove the stock muffler, with still the resonator on IF its still quiet ill put the jdm pipe, and if needed i was thinking about modifing the Silencer addon, to make it longer or with a smaller hole at the end, so and when ill go downtown ill just put the silencer on and everything should be allright, ill take some videos when it will be done, But I will do the Exhaust job after i received and installed my Header!! By the way sorry for my English, i usually talk French Thank You !! |

Ack -- why can people not tell the difference between resonators and mufflers?
A resonator is not a muffler. It's an echo chamber. Tap on yours, it'll ring like a bell. It bounces soundwaves into each other, cancelling the noise out. Great for smoothing the tone of one's exhaust, only good at reducing the volume. They come stock. A straight-through muffler is often mistaken for a resonator because they're both cylinders. Aside from the exterior shape, however, they are nothing alike. A straight-through is packed with insulation behind a perforated centre pipe. This absorbs sound. If you have one and tap on it, you get a dull response. Straight-throughs are great at reducing the volume with minimal flow impairment, and offer the flexibility of greater noise suppression with a longer body. However, they will not smooth the tone nearly so well as a resonator. If you want a muffler for looks on the end, without compromising volume, I'd suggest adding a straight-through round-body muffler after your resonator, and then stick whatever muffler you want on the end of the pipe. It won't sound the same, but it shouldn't be notably louder. |

A turbo, by it's very nature of sticking metal blades into the exhaust stream, effectively does the same thing to the exhaust stream as the baffled mufflers used on pretty much every stock engine. They slow the flow down dramatically. Slow-moving exhaust streams are by their nature quiet, which is the primary reason a car's exhaust gets louder as engine RPMS increase or as you remove restrictions on the flow.
That's why straight-through mufflers and resonators, although different technologies, are both well-regarded. They reduce volume without greatly impinging upon smooth exhaust flow, ending the traditional balancing act between efficiency and acceptability. |

O My god, Iv removed the stock muffler 2day to see whats was the sound with only the resonator on, So Loud and Crappy, I cant put my pipe directly on it.. I have to keep my stock muffler and put it after ho well. maye ill juste forget about it
