Hey Guys,
As some of you may remember, I recently picked up racing hart M5s in 18x7.5 format. I'm still working on refurbing them, but when I'm through I'm going to be in the market for some new tires and wanted some recommendations.

I would like to stay at either a 40-45 thickness, mostly because that will still throw off my spedo by about 3mph at 60, and should keep the overall size closer to the GTS wheels I have on there currently. I've been using the Falken ZIEX ZE-912 tires for a while, and after warming them up they corner magnificently. However, with all of the choices out there, I'm not sure if I'll want to go with them again for 18s.

So let me know what you guys have used and enjoyed. I'd like to keep the cost per tire down below $150, but would still like to have nice, grippy tires. I'm also mostly interested in either summer or all weather tires (but probably more summer, I think I'll keep the GTS wheels for winter driving).

No larger than a 40 aspect ratio, and 35 to play it safe.

So we're talking a 225/40R-18 tire?

BF Goodrich G-Force Sport is an excellent tire, and can be had for $134/tire at tirerack

A more aggressive tread, but good tire is a Yokohama Parada Spec-2, lower tread life, but a grippy tire. Yours for only $1 more per tire.

I run Falken 512s and have been quite happy with them in dry and wet conditions.

Sweet, I will definitely look into both of those!

I was thinking of going for the 40 mostly because of ride quality. I'm on blown suspension right now (don't worry, next thing I'm doing will be instaling bilsteins on H&Rs). As for the tread life, well, even tires that are meant to last 40k I'm only getting 15 out of...

The falkens are definitely still in the race, I've been happy with my 912s, I wonder what the tread difference is between them and the 512s.

I'm in the market more for performance, we have a lot of windy mountain roads around here that I have a lot of fun on. I'd love to get my hands on super cheap/used tires though, just so I can figure out how this thing drifts (i drive more aggressively for speed rather than sliding).

you will hate yourself if you go with a 35 series. IMO go with some 225/40's (i just bought a set yesterday) those Yokohamas are a great tire

35 series wouldnt be too bad if they would give you a wider tire when you bought rims with them. 215/35s are entirely too skinny for a 7.5"-8" wheel and unfortunately thats mostly what they offer when you buy 18s frown.gif

I'm basically looking for a tire that once it's warmed up, will keep superior traction. I was looking into nittos for a while, since they're a blend of compounds, but they're a little too pricey for me.

There are windy mountain roads that I like to take my baby up to. I need tires that can handle spirited driving through each turn without losing traction, even when going through S bends.

215mm width for 18 X 7.5" tires would be the best set up.

2009 honda civic si have 17 X 7.5" rims on 215/45 R17 Tires. So 215 mm tires will fit perfectly. I wouldnt go any higher than 225 mm.

Alright guys,
So, ran into some bad news. The Racing Hart M5s had one wheel that was FUBAR'D. I looked around for a replacement, but couldn't find any. After 3 weeks of looking, I finally gave up hope to find another any time soon.

So I happened across some Volk C-Ultras in 16x8 (possibly 7, orig. stickers are there, but they're mislabeled) +35 selling for dirt cheap on CL. They're tireless, so right now I'm looking for new tires for them as well. To be honest, I don't know sizes that well, but I was thinking 215x40x16. Do you think that this would be a good size, or should I be looking for something slightly lower profile or more stretched? I don't want the whole doughnut look, or the squared look that most sizes give without stretching them.

Since I've worn out my Falken's faster than I can imagine (like 3-5k and I've gone through 20-30% of the tread... I need to stop sliding) I need some decent all-season tires for the winter. Once summer hits, I'll swap the all-seasons back over to the GTS wheels and put on good summers on the Volk's. Anyways, if you have any recommendations, please let me know!

This thread will be relevant to my interests soon...my Potenzas in front have about 60% tread left, but the PZ900s in back are down to the wear indicators...so, as shegarhuney mentioned, I'll be looking for replacements for my tC rims, either for the rear tires soon or waiting until all 4 tires are dead.

Razor, I hope you find what you're looking for. thumbsup.gif

alright guys so here is my tire and rim set up as of now. Ive been wondering how plus size tires affect how fast the celica accelerates and how it affects your top speed. When I selected my tire size i didnt know much at the time and i went with that size because members said that 225 was widest you can fit on the celica without rubbing. well ive learned that wider is not always better. check out the link below?

(16" X 7) Motegi FF7 with 225/50R16 Toyo Proxes 4 Tires

sticky material!! atleast i think so.... You can change the different size of tires too see how efficient your rim and tire set up is.

215/40 should be good for that size wheel. you could probably go to a 225/35/16 on an 8" wide

i have 16s and have 205/55 cause i'm at like 7" wide.
