I know different brand exhaust makes different sound. Would that be the case for intakes too?

Mostly depends on the style of the air filter. Cone filters are loud, 'mushroom' filters are quieter and don't make quite the obnoxious sound the cone filters do at > 3k rpms, and the drop in ones are quiet (unless you chop up the airbox). Those are about the choices you have.

All 3 are drop in filters, right? If so, then yeah, you're just paying for a name. There are differences, but not $60 worth of differences.

I've never had an HKS filter before, but I've read about the foam crumbling/disintegrating over time? Has anyone here had that happen to them? I had a GReddy Airinx before, and really liked it, and never had the disintigrating filter problem...

Edit: I'm referring to the HKS 'mushroom' filter, not the drop-in filter in the parts database.

im not talking about the mushroom filter, although i heard you have to change the filter on those mushroom ones every once in a while. and they are like $15 a filter.

Im talking about the hks filter that look exactly like a k&n filter and aem dry filter, but they are used on turbo engines

if you want some sound and dont wana waste money (because SRI on a celica offer no addition hp) removed and cap the resonator (triangular black box) below your stock intake and grab a k&N filter. factory intake on a 6gc is a slightly restricted Cold air intake smile.gif

Mstoochn, i notice you have Injen Short ram intake. When your car idle, can you clearly hear the intake breathing under the hood? Cause i have the weapon r secret intake. At idle if i can hear my engine i can hear my intake breathing, which is pretty loud (btw, this is standing outside the car with the hood closed). My friends have aem (CAI) and i dont' hear anything from it unless i put my ears real close to the fender at idle. hmm....

my SRI makes no loud noise during idle, or noise at all until 3K RPM just a quiet hiss from regular airflow

longer the tube the more noise is disapated. @ speed you will here both in the mid range and get somewhat annoying closer to red line tongue.gif

mine sounds more like a vaccum cleaner. i think its because of the huge piping i have on the intake + a cone filter
