Hey guys this weekend I've been trying to put in my new clutch got everything unbolted got the new flywheel resurfaced and got the new clutch and pressure plate bolted on but I can't get the tranny back in. I tried bench pressing it in but because of how the angles are I can't get it to align with the spindle any tips into getting that thing back in ?? I think I'm doing good so far first time installing a clutch and how much does the s54 weight I heard 95lbs but I think its more.

i did a combination of lasso and jack.
as i lifted it with a jack i had another person keep it balanced with ropes, i had a 2x4 suppoting the engine, its kind of hard to explain. that way you slowly put it up while you are looking for the right angle. once you are tired, there isno way you can bench press it withot any difficulty. good luck -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I usually balance the thing on a 2x4 on a floor jack, from there I carefully raise it up and slide it over the input shaft, then I slowly inch it into place rocking it back and forth on the way. Once you get it in far enough to touch the little guide posts/holes it's cake, just adjust the height of the jack up and down till it pops in.
You used the alignment tool to get a perfect line for the shaft right? Sometimes if it gets hung on the shaft rotating the trans ever so slightly can do the trick. BTW i never need assistance when doing it this way and it's not very tiring either. |

I tried balancing it on the jack too but I couldn't it keep from falling over I just hate how its so cramp in the engine bay too and yes I used the alignment tool and greased everything also used thread locker on the flywheel bolts and torqed to specs thanks for the advice. I have some (cough)honda(cough) buddies coming back from hunting 2marrow they said they'll help me finish it thanks for the offer Nat. -------------------- "To Protect And To Serve The Wealthy" -POLICE

bench pressing it into place isnt that easy, its not the weight of it that makes it hard, its the angles you have to put it into to get it in, and how bulky it is. you kinda have to angle the tranny into the bay, then use your knee to support the weight at the end, and use your arms to wiggle it back and forth to set the input shaft.
you also need to have bolts handy, to get a couple bolts started while your down there. its definetly not for everyone. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Got it in with the help of 2 buddies I agree lining it up is the hard part the weight itself is not that bad. I don't think I'll be ever be able to install the tranny by myself I tried thats what counts lol thanks for the info and tips all.
