Hey guys,

I have replaced my original gauges with glowing gauges and I just wanted to share my experiance with the ones that also might be interested on changing their gauges!
I'm not an profeshonal on this so everything you guys do is on your own!

Ok, for the installation.

1. Remove the instrument cluster. removing the two screws located in the top portion of the cowl, and gently pulling on the bottom portion of the instrument cowl. Then remove the remaioning 4 screws holding down the actual cluster.
2. Carefully remove the 3 connectors but be carefull not to damage anything!

3. When you get the cluster out, remove the front clear face shield.

4. Remove the black face that will allow you to access the gauges.

5. DO NOT REMOVE ANY OF THE NEEDLES
6. DO NOT REMOVE THE PLASTIC PLATE WHERE THE NUMBERS AND SYMBOLS ARE.
7. DO NOT MOVE THE FUEL NEEDLE
8. DO NOT BEND THE NEEDLES
9. ONLY MOVE THE NEEDLES CLOCKWISE OR COUNTER CLOCK WISE LIKE THEY ARE DESIGNED TO DO

10. The glow gauges comes with their own wiring and a on/off switch.

11. Carefully slide the new gauges on top of the original ones. First make shure the needle goes through, then make it fit perfictly.

12. for them to fot perfict, you can glue them on top of the original ones. but note that the original ones might get damaged by the glue!
13. Make shure that the open door icon on the RPM glow gauge is presicely on top of the original icon.

14. for the air bagg side icons and the engine side icons do the same as step 13. or leave the original out and put only the new ones in.
15. note that the new gauges does ton come with the ABS, Cruise control and Over Drive icons! (don't know yet how to make them visible)

16. MAKE SHURE THAT NOTHING INTERFIERS WITH THE NEEDLES EXPESHALLY WHEN PUTING EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER, BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY!! TAKE YOUR TIME TO DO IT RIGHT!

17. When putting the black face back on, check if it presses to much on the wires of the glow gauges. if so, customize it so it presses less on the wires.

18. Put the cleare face shield back on.

19. Connect the plus and the negative wires of the glow gauges to your low beam switch.
20. install the cluster back in you car.

21. Connect the on and off switch where you desire.
22. turn your low beam on, and then hit the on/off switch!!!!
23. BAMMMMM!!!!! Let there be light!!!

Hope there is enough information for you guys, it been a pleasure to finally put some of my experiance on this forum.
And I bought the gauges on ebay!!!! (Search for celica 94-99 glow gauges)

So, I have this same set, and really, the "switch" is kinda annoying. I have mine tapped into the gauge lights (so when the car is on, and the i turn on the parking/gauge lights, the gauge over lay can be turned on. Anyone ever just solder some wire between the two contacts of the switch (before they mate up to the actual switch), Im guessing that this should create a constant circuit so when the lights go on, so does the overlay.

Now you just need to paint needles red, kinda hard to read the gauges as it is...

Is best not no solder the two wires of the on/off switch together, beqause the glow gauges came with a small circuit inside a black box. This circuit needs to get a signal every time that 12 volt is applied to it (through your switch that turs on the parking lights) to be able to turn the gauges on.
Thats why when you turn the gauges off, and back on, they wont light up until you press the on/off switch.
Every thing is managed by the circuit in the black box.

I find the on/off swich ugly two!!! I wanted to put a small fotocell that will turn the gauge on when you are in a dark place. But when I found out that you need to press the on/off switch i changed my mind!

nice. i remember doing a writeup on this way back ago, back in the geocities days lol. mine is tapped into the fusebox for the gauges so that they only go on when i turn the instrument panel on. its a simple $3 part from pep boys. no soldiering required.

just recently ordered these on ebay. can't wait to get em installed. hope i dont mess up

Good luck!!! Remember to take your time, make shure nothing disturbes the Needles...

how long did it take you to do this whole thing? and "12. for them to fit perfect, you can glue them on top of the original ones. but note that the original ones might get damaged by the glue!" did you use glue?

Use double stick tape.

I used Glue (crazy glue), but if your hands are dirty and the glue gets on your hand, you might get the gauges dirty if you touch them with your hand. That is a disadvantage when using crazy glue.
Doubleside tape may also work!!!! but remember ta the new gauges does not have to interfeer with the needles! the doubleside tape needs to be thin so that the new gauges can sit as close as possible on the old ones.
It took me about half an hour to install them, but the next day I had to take everything appart because the needles where not working properly.

my glow gauge installation..was a mess...it's all good now and i love it. only problem is my RPM gauge isn't working, idk why i think somethings wrong with the green circuit board film thingy on the back of the cluster..it looks work or something..i went to a toyotas dealer to try and buy a new circuit board, but i hear that it was $90, not only that..but its now discontinued, so i cant get one until someone parts it out

My RPM gets some times stuck too at around 7000 RPMs. But since I usualy don't drive fast I don't reach 7000 RPM that often

You shure nothing is interfering your RPM needle?

How long did it take you and what did you use, glue or tape?

i got mine always on so if i go into a tunnel or something they glow

hey does anyone know if we need to have new leds installed or will the actual guages light on their on sorry might be a dumb question but yeah can anyone answer me..

No, you won't be needing LED's. The gauges come with the lights build in.

The only "old" lights that will remain visible are the ones of the needles.

So if you want the needles to show brighter or another color, you can replace those bulbs with LED's or a different color.

But, these gauges are so bright and cool that you won't even pay attention to the color of the needles!

You can also power these by connecting the positive lead to the accessory lead off an aftermarket stereo; typically it's an orange wire connected to nothing. I power mine this way, so they come on when I turn on my parking lights. I grounded it by adding one of those little circle-ended terminal connectors and screwing it in where the radio bracket bolts in. I've had it for probably a year and a half and have never had a problem with it.

just curious i just got these today and how exactly do you get teh fuel and temp on witough moving the fuel gage? help
