I'm looking to race a G6 in 2010, the series is UK based and for any make & model that was marketed in any country prior to 31/12/93.

This model Celica appeals to me due to its relatively high bhp as standard. The problem is, the car is normally listed as having a M.Y between 94>99. I believe the production run was from Sept93 to July99.

I have seen G6's advertised for sale that say they are 1993 JDM imports. This however, may not be correct.

Can anyone confirm & point me in the direction of documentation, that the Generation 6 Celica was sold in Japan in 1993?

I have tried a UK based Celica forum, but as yet no clarification.

I look forward to hearing from the experts.

Thanks, Eliot

The date restrictions....is that a manufacturing date? or registration date?. IIRC a few 6G Celicas were made prior to 1994, but I`m not sure if any were first registered until 1994.

Generally early 1994 cars have a production date of late 93, so by going off of a production tag then yes, there can be a "1993 gen 6" however it is really a 1994.

Same thing as most jap Subarus. The bugeye WRX for the US is listed as 2002-2003, but in Japan it was 2001-2002. Next generation was 2004-2005, and in Japan it was 2003-2004, etc.

The model needs to have been marketed/sold prior to 31/12/93.

I have seen 6gen celis as 1993 for sale... official manufacturing range is 09/93-08/99 so first few thousands cars were really made in 1993. But depends on if this is enough for race organizers.

if that is the official manufacturing date, mines a 1993, he said on CCUK that they had to sell so many models in any given year so they should qualify?

Eliot - if your quote of the rules is verbatim.... specifically, any make & model that was marketed in any country prior to 31/12/93. the 6CG should qualify... you should have seen advertisements, flyers, even autoshow displays would have been in 1993... with them being for sale late in 1993 - its hard to remember how that all was 15 odd years ago but now you can basically get a 2010 model car by June of 2009... so please take a very close look at the wording and come back to us smile.gif

Thanks for your input everyone.

Basicaly, if the G6 was sold in 1993, I can use it. From what I can make out searching the net, I think it was sold in Japan in late 93. The launch date in the UK was March 94, and I'd imagine that the US would have had the car in dealers at a similar time to the UK & Europe

What I cannot find, is any documentation from the history files, that I could present to the series organisers to prove that the G6 was on sale in 93. As a last resort, I'll have to buy a G6 that is advertised as a 93, and make sure that the date of registration on the vehicle documents is 1993, and present that, although idealy a newer car would be easier to find as a good base.

Im not sure if you could gat a 6gc advertised as 93..

even if it was made on 93, it would still be an official 94 model.
