like it says iv been offered gen 2 3s pretty much complete.. but bottom end is apart...guy says all the parts are there tho. comes with a tubular mani and adapter flange for t3/t4... also coming with it is an unknown tranny bolted up the guy thinks it it a lsd tranny from a solora but i unno i think its a 5th gen gt tranny.... saposidly its jdm so says the previous owner...comes with a uncut celica harness i assume its a 5th gen and the 3s computer...i unno if motor has harnes or not tho im waiting to hear bak from the seller... the motor had been rebuilt new pistons and rings all new botom end parts and then sold and the new seller wanted the h beam rods outa the motor and now it sits...also coming with and external waste gate and some other things....guy said 450 takes it...what do you guys think?

im also spending alot of time on here researching cause im thinkin about building a stroker, i have been readin old threads all day trying to learn things

any info you guys can give any advice, and if you know of good threads please post i dont wanna over look anything

$450 sounds pretty good, worst case scenario the bottom end sucks, you part the engine for your money back or use it as a spare

2nd gen 3s motor with how many miles? your basically buying someone elses headache. for 450 its not a bad price but remeber that your going to be doing a lot of trouble shooting and installing. not to mention once you start to clean it up you may find more crap that the previouse owner ****ed up.

well since he already took the eagle rods, you can still do with the stock rods. Take a look at the trans, if it came off of a v6 solara, it will be super beefy and have a metal hose looped in the front portion of the trans.

as for the harness, it would have to be a 3sgte harness, 5sfe 5th gen harness won't do. Are you getting the head too? Is it complete? You will need all sensors in order for it to run.

450 aint, bad and if you plan on doing a stroker build find out what brand the new pistons are.

This will be a great way to learn about the 3sgte motor. If you have the time and energy to start up a build.. I say go for it.. you will be amazed how much you learn. The key is to not be afraid however. I always say wiring will be time consuming, but is not hard by anymeans.. its just learning something new.. get the information, get the tools needed, and go to war because thats what it WILL be.

If you have a "never say die" mindset this wont be too hard.. But before you buy this Id say take some pictures and find out what things need to be replaced, ask the owner as many questions as possible about anything defective.. Because im pretty sure you will need to buy new things anway, so you might as well find out what exactly you need. Grab some manuals, read 3sgte swap threads, find out the dos and don'ts and turn this thread into a turbo build friend! wink.gif

I'm with Art. It's not a bad deal by any means at all, but if you aren't familiar it will kill you. So if you dont have the desire to face typical issues + fixing someone elses crap, steer clear
I keep reading slvrcelica09 saying the wiring is time consuming, and not hard..... Which is disagree with, there is a REASON everyone sends their gen 2 wiring harness off to get them done. They are a BI**H. Unless Im wrong, then someone please correct me.

people send their harnesses over to tweak bc they dont have the time to convert their own. Its VERY time consuming, but not an impossible feat like most people say. I have experience with wiring and converting, you need to keep a sticky of what goes where, join and connect.. but it is NOT a 1 hour job.. that is not what im saying at all. Im saying if you have the determination you can do anything.. and IMO I wouldn't even do a swap if I didn't want to do the wiring.. wiring is an important part in understanding the car's technical functions.

lol. I dont want to keep busting your balls, but you are really misinformed on this topic.
This is one of those times where the 2nd gen and 3rd gen swaps really DO differ.

The wiring for the 2nd gen swap is extremely involved and should never be attempted by anyone without prior wiring experience. Just about every function of your car needs to be changed over, unlike the 3rd gen swap where you just get the clutch start and fuel pump working and everything else just plugs right in.
This is not something that will take "more than one hour". It takes at least a day or so just to unloom both harnesses and clean them up, not to mention the time you have to put into researching all the functions from both cars.

Unless you have done it before, you really have no idea. The wiring prices that DrTweak and others (cough, cough) have charged are more then worth spending on this conversion.

I'm all for everyone learning as much as they can about their car, but your average 6gc swapper who has just wired in a few subs into his car shouldn't be messing with this.

see i wouldnt mind sending my harness away... i know enough that wiring is something you dont wanna mess up and i dont mind paying ppl that know what they are doing when it comes to that stuff..... but i need to find a 3s harness

Art is right again, the gen 2 and gen 3 wiring harnesses are nothing alike. If it were a gen 3 harness, I think we would expect you to do it yourself... but it's not, it's a gen 2 and they suck.
The price that tweak, art, and DG have offered in the past are a good deal for how much work goes in to them. So please, stop telling everyone with a gen 2 that wiring is easy but time consuming.

that isn't close man. No matter how hard I try, I'll never be able to fly. Or be president, or a super hero. And That's a good personal philsophy I guess. But I am definitely doing a swap without redoing the harness..... and I have some wiring experience redoing the entire 350z harness.

Ian, after looking at it all again, I'd say pass on this one. I held out and found a whole front clip for $400

well im definetly gonna go check it out first i think, with all the stuff he offered the tranny being the big one....if it is a solora lsd and with all the other parts i think it might be worth it....right now im trying to get ahold of the original seller and see what i can lear from there

i have zero experience with this, but if you have the time and the money i'd say it would be an excellent learning opportunity. You never learn unless you try to do things yourself, i know all the people above who say "not to mess with it if you don't know about it," they certainly were not born with complete knowledge of 3sgte motors, they had to learn at some point too. wink.gif

and if all fails you can always resell it here, im sure someone would be interested...

You are right, the best way to learn about this stuff is to do a swap. However getting a box of random parts is just going to result in frustration and a whole lot of posts, emails and phone calls to the people above who posted not to buy this. lol.

Dont get me wrong thos. Assuming you pretty much get everything needed it a fair price, if you know what you are doing and have done a swap and built a motor before. But if this is someones first time around doing this stuff, then its a bad idea.

notice i never said it was a good deal, or gonna be easy, cause i don't know those things. You never know what you are buying in the first place with used stuff, more than likely the previous owners headaches, which is why they are selling and giving up.

like i said before if he has the time and the money there is no reason why not to go for this.. biggrin.gif There is more than enough info and people on this site to get him through it if he is determined.

well if i get it i wouldn't be going at it alone...id be taking it to the team at gold fab to help me out as they have way way more experience with swaps and boosted motors then me, and one owns a gt4 so he has indea about the 3s...but i am scared off a bit cause untill i see it all i unno what i am missins....sensors and what not will be a pain but i am gonna check it out and see

Youre going to spend the same amount of money either way you go. Get yourself a nice clip from the get go and do it right. There have been more than enough horror stories from people who took their cars to shops that supposedly really knew what they were doing but ended up in disaster.

i would much rather just boost my 5s, only reason im thinkin about this really is to build 5sgte...i mean for the price its worth a look at i figure...as for the shop deal i know these guys as friends more then i do any thing else...its not like dropping it off at some shop and wait for it to be done, id be over there getting my hands dirty along side em...so im not about to get bent over... i thank you for your input tho guys cause i dont think im gonna touch it....but im still gonna check it out...if i was gonna swap i would just nip it in the but and get a 3rd gen clip but i dont have that much flow...my goal is just a decently checp build for now and then gt4 down the road cause they are legal over here
