Just curious, but will any grade but 87 (what the car is made for and what I put in) hurt the car over prolonged use? I can understand it not affecting it with one fill up, but what's the real advantage of putting in a higher octane if it's not really doing anything?

Lastly, and only slightly related, I accidentally put about one quarter of 5W 30 instead of 10 (got one that was 5w 30 by mistake because it was with the 10W 30 bottles and I didn't notice). By the time I noticed, of course almost half of the 2 quart bottle was poured in. Besides a bit of a shutter at start up this morning, I haven't noticed any performance issues. Am I alright?

PS: I was so low, I ended up putting 2 quarts of 10W 30 in along with the 1 quart of 5W 30... which I'm kinda hoping balanced it out. Sorta.

I use 93 octane. Full tank of gas gets me exactly 280 miles and if I drive in a straight line I can squeeze it to 290

From what I know, the car's recommended fuel is fine to use, and 6GC's take regular. However, using a lower octane than recommended can cause knock and negatively affects performance and mileage.

i have 2 cars.

94 Saturn SC1 - gets 46mpg, and i use premium (93) all the way. i've noticedthe milage is SLIGHTLY better, and it does give the car a little more power... main reason i started putting premium in this thing was because i need it in order to make it up hills.... wink.gif in all honesty, it's got somewhere between 160,xxx-200,xxx miles on, and running the LK0 SOHC engine, only 85bhp.... havn't been home in 10 months, not sure how often my mom drive it.

94 Celica GT - not quite sure, havn't been in 10 months and only owned her for 3 thus far... but i told my mom while she's "jogging" the cars to only use PREMIUM ONLY because it's a little easier on the engines, seems cleaner (maybe it's just me?), and call me crazy.. i could almost SWEAR my cars always have something of a "personality" and "memory" of their own... tongue.gif

the higher octane is meant for cars running turbo or in naturally aspirated high compression engines. the higher octane only helps prevent knock under high pressure. a 5sfe is designed to run with 87 octane. no need for 89 or 91 as these have relatively low compression. instead, the extra $$ you save every fill can be put towards something more useful like maintenance and repairs..

I'm using 101 octane atm, 97 Octane with Millers +4 for every 20litres, costs a fortune to fill the car, last fill with 3 bottles of octane booster cost me £128 works out at $212.08 at todays rate and that was sunday past i filled.

hmm still debating whether to mix toluene or racing fuel. but at the same time racing fuel is leaded and all cars require unleaded fuel only. darn So cal

i know that adding toluen to achieve a level of 93 octane wont be the same as 93 octane that you pump from a gas station but what else can i do, have a drum of 93 octane shipped to my house every month... biggrin.gif

since we're on the subject of fuel and additives etc, does anyone use anything in their fuel?

I sometimes put some marvel's mystery oil in my tank, and i find i get a noticeable increase in MPG, no power increases though..

with 87oct and 4-6 oz of this stuff, i see.... an avg of 20-40 miles more per quarter tank.

Sure that's not just you being a little more careful with your foot? 20 miles is an easy fluctuation.

For JDM cars as close to 100 RON as possible.

Even for the 3S-FE ST202, premium has more response and better milage.

I put that down to the OEM ignition maps of JDM ecus being that Japan premium is 100 RON which is what we call race fuel as our highest premium pump gas is only 98 RON (NZ.)

When I can I run the 98 Sunoco GTX Nextel Cup stuff. (NOTE NASCAR gas has ZERO (it's like .07%) oxygen in it) Noticeable increase in at least response but probably also power. MPG usually runs like 29 on my Celica no matter what I do (Auto GT).

Most of my fellow racers also note that no matter make or model the Sunoco GTX stuff will get you better mileage so there is something in the zero oxygen.

California only carries 91 octane (which isn't suffice for 3sge/3sgte) as apposed to other states with 93 octane. So I came to some conclusions:

Then there is Torco Accelerator. Its a concentrated racing fuel that is way better than octane booster (that only raise octane level by 0.7 - 1 point)

Now as far as the torco accelerator additive, Ive read that it is not the best thing to put in your car becuase it will clog your fuel injectors if you use it constantly. They sell them in (6) 32 oz bottles for $125. Pour 20 oz into gas tank and fill up 14 gal on the celica = 94-95 octane. here's the chart mixture http://torcoracefuel.net/2-docs/accelerator-blend-chart.gif
