QUOTE (97celiman @ Dec 5, 2009 - 4:14 PM) *
i'm confused, i thought forever that the TMIC of the 3rd gen was inefficient, since all of the heat sort of got absorbed by it?

Is it true that the 3rd gen uses W2A intercooling (from the factory-through means of a TMIC) rather than a A2A FMIC?

Slightly off topic, but on tweaks convertible, did he do a W2A intercooler and just offset the intercooler so that it wouldn't be directly on top of the manifold/valve cover and get all hot?

Seems like the trend forever with 3rd gen swaps was to convert to a FMIC, is it going in the opposite direction now? B/c of less piping with TMIC, is it equally efficient? or is it just a pro and con to each?

sorry for the noob questions, I am confused between all the threads...

LOL this post is filled with so many confusions that its almost impossible to sort through it all.
To sum up my reply: No. smile.gif

I used the w2a because it works good and looks much cleaner in the engine bay imo. Also underneath there is lots of heat wrap so the engines heat never gets to it. We have plans to upgrade some things to make it better once we work on that ill update the thread with the info.

as for the engine pictures ypu can see at the bottom of this picture there are 2 peices missing off the piston.

Here are some more I need to get better pics but I just snapped them quick when I could.

Also we installed projectors but before I take any better pictures I gotta get the car all finished.

Yes, it seems to max out at around 300whp.

Cali, I meant that 300whp seems to be the questionable mark. Running a 5sfte on a stock bottom end at around 300whp just seems like your flirting with danger. CAN you make more then that, of course....BUT I personally dont think it will last, because I personally feel that 300whp is the "breaking" point of a 5sfte.

I say this due to recent events with Shannons and Manny's cars. Now, there is obviously no real "hp number" where a motor will break, so some may break at 280whp, and others may break at around 350whp...I just used 300whp as what I feel to be an average/expected/max limit of the stock 5s bottom end, from personal experience, and others misfortunes. How far you want to tune to, or PAST 300whp is entirely up to you, and as more and more people decide to do so, we will further confirm the limits of the stock 5s bottom end.

I thought Mstoochn was just joking. I guess there is something I'm missing here.

5sfe has more than proven itself over the years. If I had a gt right now, I would totally turbo it.

BTW, not sure what fits better on the Celica, but on the MR2's we're angling the screamer pipe like this. Let me know what works best for your setup. Beauty of our V-band design is that you can angle it in many different positions to clear obstacles that may be in the way depending on what other things are installed on your car:
