k soo heres the story.. as of right now, my car sits in the garage at maaco because it wont start.. over the past 2 weeks my car has had some trouble starting up in the morning and at night. i would start it and it would stall out instantly.. i would do it again and rev it to like 2500-3000rpms and hold it, it would sputter a bit and then smooth out.. i was thinkin it was just because it was cold out idk.
motor has 200k on it btw so today my mechanic (manny if ur reading this it was Johnny) picked up my car to replace my axels and then im guesssssing decides to take it for a joy ride because he ran out of gas as he was bringing the car back.. i met him and put gas in the car and it wont start.. turns over with NO PROBLEM and with plenty of juice to the battery.. we tow it back to maaco and put it in the garage and i finally got it started but as soon as i give it gas it GAGS hardcore! so its obv not gettin enough fuel to the engine im guessing .. so does anyone else think it could b that or somethin else.. please help! lol i miss my celi already UPDATE********* k so after 3 machanics and about $250 later my cat is FINALLY fixed and running betttter then ever.. turns out my distributor was bad but that is now replaced and all timed out and runnnning great.. im soo happy lol after 2 weeks of driving my moms camry (2.4 vvti .. wasnt to bad) i was soooo excited to get behind the wheel of my 5s again omg the sound of my exhaust (and now hallowed out cat.. thats another story) was like an orgasim to my ears lol.. anyways thats the good news.. next mission is to paint my valve cover and order my TRD spoiler This post has been edited by Ted95: Jan 7, 2010 - 1:38 PM -------------------- st205 powered ss3 coupe

camron, take a short peice of wire, and in your diagnostics box, bridge the FP and B+ pins with the car in the on position.
you should be able to feel fuel running thru the return line, and in the line from the fuel filter to the rail. if you dont, the pump is bad. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

You could also try to remove the fuel cap and put your ear in the hole and have somebody turn the ignition switch on. You should be able to hear the fuel pump run for about two seconds and then stop.
If this is OK. then have your friend crank the engine momentarily. you should be able to hear the pump work again. Good Luck |

car won't start is based on mostly ignition or fuel. igniter, distributer, fuel pump, etc.

if its not the fuel pump, check the fuel pressure regulator, if it fails u wont get enough fuel to the injectors UNLESS U FLOOR IT.
and u no if u turn the key to the "ON" position you will hear the pump turn on... This post has been edited by Mstoochn: Dec 21, 2009 - 12:54 AM |

Could it not be the EFI Water Temp sensor too?
If it went out, and its cold, then it would be somewhat hard to start and also the car would die/sputter when you gave it gas until it was like 2k RPM. -------------------- |

UPDATE- alright so heres todays update lol.. the car runs, but not very good.. its running way to rich because when i get on it my car back fires and blows out black smoke out of my intake.. yes my intake.. we ran a diognostics test or w.e it is and we found 2 codes, 24 and 31.. 24 being one of o2 sensors and 31 being the map sensor.. the toyota dealership or w.e toyota place we called said that the map sensor is $275 and it mighttt not be the problem.. it could be the EIG thing or w.e i cant remember then name but that cost 600-700$ !!! .. this sucks..

My car would not start when cold because my coolant temp sensor melted inside somehow. Check it out to make sure it is good even if it looks good it could be bad.
