ohhhh whew you had me worried for a moment. well good luck i I don't think Jim's gonna explain your setup cause he's holding up on posting more info on the car till his new setup is done. Anyway i can tell you that i'm not going to even change the oil in mine till you guys are finished with your setups and give us the 411.
i guess now that we've (ok mostly it's my fault lol) cluttered jim's thread i'll have to go back and find my actual question to Him and repost it after this. hmmmm....

Ok jim christmas is gone (season's greetings by the way) and it's time to get the wheels cranking in celicaland again. what is the status with pipe's 4wheel drive celica project?

Pipes car will be down here soon enough. He is collecting parts he needs as we speak, and once he has all parts in his possession he will making the trip. I am currently getting everything ready in my garage to help another member of this site to help swap his car.


He bought the black front half cut off me, and Me, Joey, and Shannon will be giving him a hand installing this motor in his car over the next few weeks. He has scored himself an amazing motor....ONLY 50K MILES!!! It is by far the cleanest setup I have ever seen, and he will agree. He wont be using the GT4 front end, so this is up for sale to anyone that is interested. PM me for pricing.

Again, once my buddies car is swapped, Pipes will make the trip down here...and we will be giving Pipes a hand with his new setup. After Pipes, I can give my car some of the attention it deserves. Between Shannons car, buying selling motors/clips, helping friends, working, and maintaining a personal life...It has been a busy time for me, and I have only been really buying parts for my car. I now have ALMOST everything I need to be 100% finished with it. I will be pulling it into the garage, and I will be installing/setting up the parts I currently have....and will finish the car off in the Spring. I havent given up on her yet, so stay tuned.

Is the receiver of the 3S signed up here?

Yes, the member who bought this front half cut off me is a well known and valued member of this site...and has been for years. I dont know if he is wanting to let anyone know of his build until he is done, so I we leave him nameless at this point. When he reads this, he can feel free to chime in if he feels like doing so.

Trust me Ferdi, neither can I. I have been planning, buying, sourcing, reaching, discussing, reading, and changing plans for a rather long time now...and I am glad I have now locked in a build that I can start working on. Like I said, I have almost everything I need to complete my build, and the last few remaining parts I will be buying after the winter. I hope to have the car ready for the Spring...and Hope to have it ready for the Dragon Run in May. Either way Me, Shannon, my brother Joe, and about 10 other friends and family members will be making the trip...and so should you guys.

my car will be the receiver of such a clean engine, as Jim posted, I have no intention of changing the exterior of my car so the GT-4 front end conversion is up for grabs, either pm jim or me for details on that.

when time is right, I'll make a separate thread for this project, for now, let's stick to jim's project which is one of a kind.

Hey thanks for making my research easy with those photos. detaling the DEI part number for the heat shielding.

Anyway here's a serious question. The DEI product description is very specific in saying that the heat shielding can handle 400 degrees F direct heat and can reflect up to 1000 degrees F....

However on the same summit racing website there's another adhesive heat insualtor from Thermo Tec that's almost the same thing that claims up to 2000 degrees F heat sheilding capability.

Did you guys come across this one and if so why choose the one that handles 400 to 1000 degrees over one that can sheild up to 2000 degrees?
The DEI is in fact both cheaper and larger than the Thermo Tec since it cost $51 for a 48" by 36" sheet where as the Thermo Tec costs $61 for a 48" by 24" sheet.
But after taking some measurements The 24 inch width is still wide enough to fully cover the base of the intercooler and the Thermo Tec is the same 48 inch lenght as the DEI so you can do the same double layer arrangement.
So my final thoughts are that for 11 dollars more Thermo Tec wins hands down with a double layered possibly insulating capability of around 4000 degrees F where the DEI although $11 cheaper only gives you 800 to 2000 degrees F heat insulation capability when applied in a double layer.
Any thoughts on this?

since nobody replied I called DEI today and they actually recommend their floor and tunnel shield for this type of application. They recommend it because the type we've discussed so far is only reflective but not insulative to heat. the floor and tunnel shield does both up to 1700 degrees F and it's adhesive just like the other types and only 3/16ths of an inch thick. they do cost $62 for a 21 X 48 inch peice but I still think it's reasonable. this is the link here
