Guys, my wife has a 2005 Mazda tribute and she wants the foglights to run as the DRL(daylight running lamps) instead of the low beam lights. Does anybody know how I can do this? Any help is appreciated.

thanks,

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t...t=fog+light+mod

This might help you, although I'm not sure if the Tribute and Miata have similar setups.

pull the DRL fuse under the hood, go to Crappy Tire, buy a DRL system (around $15) and wire it into the fogs. BTW, what up Derick...lol

Nothing much Brian. How's it going with you? How's the EP? I haven't heard from you for a long time eh?
So... its that simple??

hold on, i just checked... there is no DRL fuse for the Tribute... thanks B but it is not as simple as that.

I do not know if you want to hear that but:

If in your country is not legal to use foglights when is not bad weather (heavy rain, fog, snow, etc) than you can not use fogs as DRL.

I have tried that in CZ and failed badly... every cop on road stopped me and asking why I'm using foglight on clear visibility and good weather conditions. Answer "those are not foglights" was not successful because every approved DRL has printed mark on lamp that proves they are DRL (not foglights)... so that is just FYI.

thanks for the advise/input Malpaso but it is legal here in Canada to have the fogs running as DRL, heck some cars have parking lights as DRL's even. It is illegal to have no DRL's though.

Wait a moment... you have (as stock solution) auto headlights on when you start engine????

if answer is YES:
a) are just headlights on or whole car is on (rear, interior, gouges, etc)
b) there must be special DRL relay... do you know where is located?

if answer is NO:
what do you mean "disable"? There is way how to turn on just fog lights w/o headlights if you men this.

DRL on the tribute is just the low beams on, interiors off, park light off when the engine is on.

What I need to do is
- engine on
- low beams off
- fog lights on
- parking brakes disengage

note: when the parking brake is engaged and the engine is running the DRL (low beams) is off.

unfortunately, I have been doing some research and there is no relay for the DRL. It is a part of what they call the "smart junction box" which I have to go to the dealership and ask them to disable the DRL through the computer.
When that is done then I can hook up the fogs to turn on when the engine is running.

I think I already got the answer to this, unless any of you have any other ideas without me going to the dealership.

I appreciate all the help I got.

According to this wiring manual (https://share.acrobat.com/adc/document.do?d...4a-56ed1b61eaa6) actually is (are... because there are 4 of them) and also fuse for DRL:

So IMHO remove fuse or main relay and done... but unless you try you never know smile.gif

No harm.. thanks for the feedbacks though. This is what I love about this community, people from all over the globe is always willing to help out. Even if it is not 6GC related.

This is why I keep coming back eventhough I dont have the 6G anymore. I also think that I speak for the 15% of the members that does not own the 6G anymore but keeps on coming back to the community.
