Hey 6gc.net, my name is Matt, Im 25 and Im from Sydney Australia.
I've had my '98 SX-R for about 5 years now and its been through hell and back with me, I'll tell you the story...

About 6 months ago, I had a perfectly stock, well maintained and apart from being in dire need of a wash, great Celica.

This was my 6gc on the last day of my holiday in the Australian Alps.

This was it 24 hours later.

Here's the story, I drove 10 hours back home from the snow to find my driveway packed with cars belonging to my 18 year old brothers friends so I was forced to park on the street as he was having a party. Being completely buggered from the drive, I promptly went to bed. A couple of hours later Im woken by screams and loud bangings sounds, turns out some gate-crashers my brother ejected decided they would retaliate to this by rejection by bringing 20 men armed with baseball bats and machetes and going to town on the cars outside my house.
My screams of rage measured 4 on the Richter.

So my beloved 6gc languished under a tarp for 6 months before I had the cash to repair it (I dont believe in car insurance).

I'd always refrained from modifying the car to retain decent re-sell value, though now I've spent several thousand dollars on it I've changed my mind and replaced my broken lights with JDM projectors.
And so it has begun, now that I've changed one thing this car will be a work in progress from now on.

Planned mods:
Wheels, tyres and suspension.
Exhaust and intake.
Sound system.
Bodykit.
Paint.

I hope you guys can help point me in the right direction for this stuff and I look forward to building a 6gc worthy of joining the ranks of some of the fantastic rides I've seen here.

damn that sucks but like the car and its nice to see alot of new people, just one minor suggestion, dont get a body kit, try to find a lip kit, they look so much better and then lower it, or get some splitters, i personally have just never really been a fan of bodykits

Wow...I can completely agree with your story, I would have rage'd until nobody in a 20 mile radius was alive. I mean, my fender has been punched in, pretty much the same damage as your fender right there, and I felt the need to kill. Richter scale 4 scream sounds about right to what I'd do in your situation. kindasad.gif

Anyway, you've got a clean slate to start on...and as others have said, a lip kit looks much better than a full body kit. It doesn't seem like the front or rear bumpers are affected anyway (might be wrong, can't see in the pic), so the repairs you have to do involve body panels that are only OEM replacable anyway...besides some aftermarket fender options, but I wouldn't advise those. However, I can advise 5th gen Celica mirrors, they're a bit less bulky and look quite nice.

Whichever way you go...I wish you much luck and many happy miles.

Holy crap dude. So I take it that there's no law requiring you to have insurance in Australia? Looks like you had a great car. You're in the right place to fix it up and make it better than before. I say you make this your progress thread and keep us updated on the restoration thumbsup.gif

Don't Australian drivers have to take out a compulsory 3rd party insurance policy?

Still wont cover your damage though.

In New Zealand there is no legal requirement for any insurance, I however have taken out comprehensive cover on my GT-Four, Would be foolish not to.

PS. Gutted for your car. Hey do all Aussie spec '98 Celicas have those red sets like JDM SS-II and SS-III?

I don't think the NZ spec '98 GS or the US spec '98 GT have red seats like that.

One thing I did notice is that, the interior pattern in JDM Celicas changed 94-95 to 96-97 to 98-99 ... And the JDM 1998 SS-I has the same pattern as the red seats, but in a kinda teal / baby blue colour.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the offers of glass, I've already replaced all the glass now.

So far I've replaced the entire liftback door as it was too badly damaged to repair, every window, the lights, mirrors, and had the fenders and roof beaten.

Yes we do have compulsory 3rd party, but like you said that doesnt cover my damage.
The reason I dont believe in insurance is, if I had comprehensively insured this car since the day I baught it, I would have paid roughly $14000 so far, thats more than the value of the car.
The repairs all up cost me $7000 roughly, so even without insurance I've saved money, the inconvience was having to come up with $7k of disposable income.

Im not sure if they all do have the red seats but they're definately common, possibly a factory option?

And yes, I will make this a progress thread, though I doubt it will move all that fast. Im poorer than an Amish mechanic.

Welcome to the 4th greatest site on the internet. I can't believe that 20 guys just straight decided it was a good idea to start going Godfather on your car, but it looks and sounds like you are on the right road to recovery.

Only Green slip, which doesnt cover property, only people.

They only came on SX-R along with the white dash
