^ His Celica coupe. QUOTE subaru wrx sti coupe models from 2003-2007 From what I've also read is that the Subaru version will be RWD as well, and not AWD. -------------------- |

Coming back to this, there is actually very little to dislike.
In addition to my previous comments, I think it feels a bit too squat, too short. Looking at the stats, it is 6" shorter than the 7th gen and over 12" shorter than the 6th gen. The shots of the back seat look nice. The front seats are a little cutting-edge but if the seat hinge could be toned down a little, they could work in a production car. Reminds me a bit of the seats in the Tesla. I'm not overly keen about the instrument cluster with its wings. I could live with it I suppose. The dashboard is the only thing I really dislike and I'm sure that is just for the show circuit. As previously mentioned, I'd like to see something that reminds one of the MKIV Supra cockpit - the way it seperated the driver from the passengers. -------------------- Davey

i, too, prefer the cockpit-like styling in the supra and 6gc but because of lightweight being one of the most important factors, i don't think toyota would even consider it. toyota even got rid of carpeting and put solid panels. what i'm more concerned about are the white seats, armrest, & door panels.. it's gonna be a pain to keep clean. and some things i still can't quite figure out are what the 3 USB ports in the centre are for other than for playing MP3's. does the stereo come with a display? it should if it's going to play DVD's (as it's printed on the dash). and what are the wings on the centre console for? isn't that CF piece just below the shift knob going to be in the way?

Super... what I meant to say is that I live in Florida and my Family leaves in New Jersey. My sisters who are now growing up age 8 and 10 +my mom can no longer fit into my celica. We used to do it that way when they were smaller with my step father sitting in passenger seat but that was always for a short ride somewhere. Then they started traveling with like half their possessions and my little celi can no longer accomodate them. Heck I can't even pick them up in an airport.. they won't fit. So we have been renting SUV's for the last few years. Needless to say when we are all going to the keys for 1-2 weeks car rental turns into a thousand dollars. Pretty silly considering that they come here several times a year. So logically it would be nice to have a big(er) car. My eyes are set on evo but my heart longs for my celica. Such is the sad truth of my relationship with my sporty coupe. Engine goes vroom vroom, car puts a smile on my face but from practical standpoint I do need to get a car that is capable of serving as a travel car. I can go cheaper, of course but having some vroom behind the hood does not hurt either. Now I could wait for the FT-86 but in all seriousness waiting for it means putting a lot of trust into a car that has been canceled half of dozen times, postponed and reduced to a fraction of what it was supposed to be. Yeah it does look nice but more powerful version will be released sometime between 2012 and who knows when. 2+ years is actually quite a lot of time to wait for a promise that may never come.
I first got a celi in 98 and it has been a wonderful journey so far. I just hope that choices that I do make will give me as much joy as I had owning celicas he he he. -------------------- Captain Pessimist

I really wish I knew what you were talking about. I just saw you say "WRX coupes" when they're 4 doors, that's all.

You people that want AWD gotta go elsewhere. A Hachi Roku with AWD is sacrilegious!!!
Anyway... 200hp is possible... Toyota's direct injection... Subaru's 190ps EJ20... possible... but i'm not holding my breath. This post has been edited by Kwanza26: Oct 21, 2009 - 11:30 PM -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

The only positive thing I see with the Subie version is a wider stance...but other than that, taller, longer, heavier? No thanks. I'll take RWD over AWD anyway.

It seems pretty unlikey to me that the Subaru 216A will have a longer wheelbase that the FT86 given that the whole purpose of the project was to standardise on the chassis and drivetrain components as much as possible so as to keep costs down. Interestingly, the inside of the Subaru is depicted as the same as the ft-86. I question if this even came from Subaru or if some home enthusiast did their own artists impression. If I was to purchase either of these babies it would be a subaru version. For obvious reasons it would cost 30-35 grand because essentially it would be a 2 door subaru sti. BUT.... it is to debut in Japan in 2011 meaning that it may or may not ever make it to us market in subaru form. If it ever does it will be in 2012 at the least and probably tuned down so much that its "green" will be flowing at half the horse power or with less than half of features.
On the other hand an sti or evo are available now, cheaper and with 4 doors. Gt-4 is certainly an option. Just because I say I will be purchasing evo... does not give it a 100 percent guarantee. Also while gt-4 would be cheaper to my pocket, it would be as illegal as driving backwards on a highway. But evo.. on the other hand... ohh so available -------------------- Captain Pessimist

Almost looks like the Toyota bumper (looking at the lower vents) is like our preface whereas the Subie bumper is like our facelift. This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Nov 10, 2009 - 11:14 AM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

I like
I don't really know what they are going for with the whole "G Sports" thing. Sounds to me like a variation of TRD... which has been around for a long time and is already established. But whatever, as long as they actually make this car. But whatever, as long as they actually make this car. I think for Toyota it's much like the F-Series Lexus' they're making; the IS-F and rumored GS-F. I think with Toyoda's goal to bring new excitement to Toyota automotive I think a new Sports division makes sense; Toyota of old is changing and TRD of old is changing with it. Also, Gazoo is now Toyota's automotive racing division in Japan so I think they have what it takes to pull this off. -------------------- Has no more Celicas

The idea of there being a new incarnation of the Celica isn't a new idea, that rumor's been around for a few years now. i don't think it's gonna happen, at this point it would be taking 2 steps backwards; that's why Scion came into play, to take over the demographic the Celica was marketed towards
