hi all, ive a 94 import with the 3sge engine, ive just fitted a apexi induction kit and a apexi exhaust and car idles lumpy, ive read that i can reset ecu to combat this idle issue by taking out hazard fues , ecu fuse and efi fuse, wait a minute then put them back in and let car idle for 10 minutes then switch off the on again and car should idle better, but min doesnt, it sounds the same, i found hazard and efi fuse ok but theres two ecu fueses, one in engine bay and another in the car by drivers lower dash, do i pull both these out or have i missed something, cheers rob wink.gif

you just have to pull the 15A ecu fuse in the engine bay

You don't need to pull fuses. Unhook your battery and let it sit for an hour or so, then hook it back up and let the car idle for a while. There was a whole write up on how to reset your ECU a few years back.

Look, I searched for you, so now you don't have to do any work!

pulling the ecu fuse is the same as unhooking the battery.. either way it cuts the battery power going to the ecu.

i forgot to mention you only need to pull the ecu fuse, not the efi and hazard fuses (mentioned in the how-to)

hi tried ecu reset several times but no joy, i took off induction kit up to throttle body and cleaned inside tb and checked for vac leaks but still the same, seems to be when its hot and chock is off when it starts to play up, should i take off tps and isvc and clean them, if so can anyone point me to a how to take off and clean tps and isvc, cheers rob wink.gif

Then try this, worked for me.

Make sure that the engine is at full running temp, let the rad fan kick in at least once. Then remove the ECU fuse and leave it out for about 2 min. Refit the fuse, start the engine and let to idle for a bit and then go for a Quick drive using all the revs in the first three gears.
This should help your ECU to reset to new fuel and ignition pionts that are within its limit.

hi thanks , i will try it, also has i was tying to find fault yesterday i disconnected the maf sensor whilst car was running but there was no change in engine note at all ! i dont know if this is normal but ive owned a few jap scoobies and when they had hesitation and bad tickover it mostly always turns out to be maf sensor, if sensor was disconnected car would stall or idle badly, as i say i dont know if toyotas are the same, failing that it would be 02 sensor but i dont know were they are on a celica, anyway will try reset and post back, cheers rob

hi tried ecu reset again after striping down tb and taking off icv and cleaning it and after putting it all back its still ticking over like s*it, its great from cold but as soon as it reaches correct temp the revs go down , by the way whats the correct idle rpm when its up to temp, its as though its its running on choke, ive even tried turning up revs manualy by turning the screw nr tb but ecu seems to drop it back down after a drive, it would be great if the cel came on but its not, when i brought the car the chap said its been chippec but he doesnt know were or what as it was fitted by another pervius owner, i suppose im clutching at straws, i havnt a clue whats wrong with it, please help by giving me some feedback/ ideas, cheers rob frown.gif

Look for any cracked or disconnected hoses. Normally this kind of stuff is cause by a vac leak.

thats your air intake tempertaure sensor not a maf sensor

check your idle line, vaccum line (for blockages or cuts) sparkplugs & leads, dizzy, TPS
warm idle is 750rpm +/-50rpm
