Went to the dyno today, it was more for tuning purposes since I knew it wasn't right, next time it will be for numbers. I want to see over 200whp and I know the car can do it.
My boost is all over the place, if I can get it to stay consistent I can get better numbers. Even though my boost gauge never read more than 11psi the dyno read up to 16psi. So when I was running it at about 14-15psi according to the gauge I can only imagine how much it actually was. Highest numbers were 182 hp 213 ft/lbs at 15psi The thing I was most impressed by was the torque, no matter how bad the run or lower hp numbers, the torque stayed consistently over 200 ft/lbs There was one run where I stopped at like 2700 rpm for some reason and it still made 109hp and 208 ft/lbs -------------------- |

Steph, I have a new map. woud you like me to send it to you? You just need to re calc for your injector size.
I got the injectors as well. Thanks. J The 7afte is very good on torque. |

nice work steff!
look at the spool on that turbo. yummmmy. once we get your boost control thing sorted, i expect another ~30whp or so. the # were a little higher on this run, but the a/f gets much better in the later runs, when the car was hotter and made a few less WHP. took alot longer than i thought it would to get the a/f ratio looking smooth. at least next time we'll be alot closer to where we need to be to start with. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

So the 7AFTE has been running beautifully, but there are two things I am thinking about changing...
1, I'm not so sure about but I want some opinions on. Dustin brought this up and I thought it was a little crazy at first but it makes sense. Switching back to an OEM fuel pump. Thinking about it, the Beams is about the same hp and has about the same size injectors as my setup and our Beams swapped red car has a stock fuel pump in it. 2, GT2860RS Bigger turbo, dual ball bearing chra, .63 a/r w/ ATP's T25Plus turbine housing (I love v-bands) all for only $1161... -------------------- |

I assume you'd want to switch because the Walbro pump is noisy?
And go for the bigger turbo. If you upgrade, you can donate your stupid, outdated, and now-useless turbo to me. This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Mar 7, 2010 - 2:28 PM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

(especially if your gonna upgrade that turbo finally!) i cant remember, did you install one of those foam insulators when you installed the pump steff? if not, i'd pick one of those up if its the noise thats bothering you. yes to #2 knowing you the way i do, i assume you already have the flow maps all plotted and have your desiered boost level set ect? details? -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I agree the pump shouldn't be changed back if she upgrades the turbo.
Big turbo ! -------------------- |

Yeah, I figured you guys would say keep the pump if I'm going bigger turbo. I may still be able to do both...time will tell how much more the bigger turbo puts out.
I asked about switching back to the stock pump because I'm not really sure how long the walbro will last. I just figure a stock pump will be more reliable and save me the tow bill if/when the walbro goes. I don't want to just keep a stock pump in my car. I got stuck in the red car cause it had an aftermarket fuel pump in it and it gave out on me on the way to work. I did buy one of those foam insulators for the walbro and it works pretty well, my fuel pump isnt really that noisy at all. It was just something I was thinking about and wondering what other people thought about it. -------------------- |

And go for the bigger turbo. If you upgrade, you can donate your stupid, outdated, and now-useless turbo to me. I'll sell it to you... But really, it will go up for sale when I'm ready. I bought it brand new, it was $756 but I got a good deal on it. I'll check the condition of it when it comes out, I'm thinking it'll be just fine since I haven't had any problems with it, and probably sell it for around $450. -------------------- |

Donating sounds better. I promise I'll put it to good use.
Sounds like a pretty good price, but too much for me. Unless you still have it in a year. I assume you're upgrading for more power? This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Mar 7, 2010 - 5:34 PM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

On that new turbo, does the dual ball bearing the same as the "dual scroll" in the turbos that the newer mini's have? And it helps to eliminate lag time?

No, dual scroll is different. I didn't know what that was, I had to google it and learn. Dual scroll turbos actually distribute the exhaust gasses between cylinders.
Ball bearing turbos just have ball bearings in the center housing rotational assembly instead of just a journal bearing. BB turbos can be water and oil cooled, don't need as much oil, react better to a lack of oil so not as much need for cool down time, have a better reaction time and are more efficient than a regular journal bearing chra. -------------------- |

I had been reading about dual scroll I just didn't understand how it was different after the gasses left the turbo, i thought it literally spooled in two different directions or something...hmmm so normally with turbos, (that are not dual scroll) it just pushes all the air in and lets it distribute itself? |

Normally its distributed by the exhaust manifold, so its up to the design of the header to distribute the exhaust gases as evenly as possible.

Steff if you're worried about FP reliability, why not move to a OEM supra pump? combining both worlds.
