Because they look at the sexy curvy lines and think "girly!"

Throw in a 3s-gte, give them a ride and then see if they think it's girly wink.gif

I disagree, I think it's more that USDM versions have no balls. Has anyone ever looked at a Ferrari and said "That's girly?" No.

Ferrari's also have no trace of "girly" - all the lines are hard edged, not soft and flowing like the celica.

does it matter what people think? take it for what it is. any car can be girly. i think the mustang is just as girl, if not more so than the celica... do NOT hate on the 7th gen either...!

there are very curvy Ferrari's... maybe not the enzo, but there are quite a few models that are nothing but curves. biggrin.gif

From what i remember celica and supra have the same body styling. "soft and flowing". so i guess supra is a chick ride too ? -_-

The US models screwed us over by making these cars sexy w/out the power to back them up.

has everyone looked past the appearance of our cars and took a hard look at the specification?

If you took a closer look at the last 4 generations of the celica in the united states; all of them where an sporty eco box. None of the celica's sported a real sports car engine. And there are not enough people to do engine swaps to change the public reputations.

Do girls look at the performance specs of cars at all?

Doesn't help that between the JDM spec models SS-I through to SS-III none of them have any tell-tail signs of being any different from the outter appearance except in 1998 when the SS-III got extra pieces of body kit around the corners and a WRC style spoiler.

My old '96 SS-III got pointed out as a girls car many times, whereas the ST205 bumper and bonnet have more of an aggressive look to them which make it look more like a mans car even if one had no knowledge of it being 4wd manual turbo

Agreed! We need a start a sticky on how not to make your car look girly.LOL. I seen some ST205 replica's up close and they look no way close to a girls car especially if you lower your car for that aggressive stances. Maybe some manly 18 inch wheels will set it off as a mans car. I owned a mazda miata once and some girls said it was cute. But i made it manly cute. I lowerd it and had a crome roll bar installed. My buddies complemented me on it. Plus it was a fun RWD sideshow doughnut spinning car. I miss that girly looking car. Plus dont we all give our cars a female name. Car = 2nd wife or gf. LOL

Official name for toyota celica is in usa is "Toyota Girlica" it is available in 3 trims. A hatchback model to help certain shoppers bring back 20 useless bags of clothes they will only wear once. A coupe for those times when they need more personal space. And of course we have he convertible that gently flaps long straight hair in the wind on the way to the beach.

Toyota never made it a "sporty car". I mean just look at the commercials. They all imply that you can have the ride of your life thus drawing attention away from its lack of muscle.

If you ever get a chance watch entire episode of top gear trying to make a commercial about vw scirocco tdi.

Here is a preview
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T8qWad67Gs

Granted it was done as a funny commercial... it very skillfully highlights all the things the car can do instead of concentrating on all the things car can not do. Such as gas mileage for example.

So over time celica became just another car on the block rather than "the car on the block"

Agreed on the GT-4. However, I still don't see non-GT-4 bodied Celicas as girly, at least not after they're lowered and had some exterior treatments.

And I'd rock a Miata...however girly they are. My mom has one (solidifies the girl fact right there), but it's just such a good car. Although she has a 3rd gen. If I could, I'd get a turbo 2nd gen...but they're expensive. kindasad.gif

Interesting about the RX8 and the Scirocco. It isn't slow for sure, I don't think my GT4 could overtake it as easily as the RX8 did, I would have to give my motor complete **** dropping to the lowest possible gear and riding out through the redline and maybe then some through the next gear to get past a Scirocco, And then yeah it would also put me back at the BP for another 68L of Ultimate lol.

There are key factors in the design of the supra that make it not a typical "girl" car - for one, the headlights definitely give it a more masculine look.

I don't see 6th gens as girly, and have never been teased about it either. I dunno.

When I think of a ferrari, obviously there are soft flowing lines, but there are a lot of hard edged lines to contrast those - from headlights to metal design, to the tail lights.

I guess its got to do with its looks, Its a nice looking car, yet its relatively cheap because it doesnt have a whole lot to give as far as performance.
Many girls arn't too fussed with performance specifications and stuff, they just want a good looking, affordable car, which is what the Celica is I guess. Hence why a lot of girls buy them, and thus labeled as a girl car. Thats my thoughts anyway.

Agree with delusionz though, GT-4 aint girly.
