Do you guys know how much it would cost to rebuild an engine on a 1995 Celica ST?

This plus the price of having machine work done. But you will need to know what size pistons and bearings you will need first

I am not sure exactly how much you know about cars/engine rebuilds. I know its not very easy to rebuild an engine, but the ST complete engines are very! cheap!
I got a 95 7A-FE for my 94ST this year and it was only 650 shipped to my door with only 65k on the motor.
My opinion... just get a new engine because they are inexpensive, and it wont take as long to swap it.
just look around got mine on ebay.

i just bought importperformanceparts.com HP engine rebuild kit with forged pistons in any compression and bore size from 81mm (stock) to 82.5mm and price with shippig was $1004.00.... me and my shop teacher are going to do the build as i am going to build it for boost i will not have to pay any labor so that is what you need to look at as in most places would charge around 500 to do a complete engine rebuild.. hope this helps you out

If you do your own work, then it should be fairly cheap. Its not hard at all, its more time consuming because you have to have the correct torque sequence and torque specs. You have to make sure all the clearances are with in the spec of the parts you are using. Other than that, its take it apart and put it back together.

gasket kits are around 300 maybe from Napa?

Bearings are around 100?

Now its up to you if you want or have to replace the pistons.

$500 for an engine rebuild?? WOW where do you guys live? I just had my cylinder head replaced with a port and polish and I had a full exhaust setup installed. All in all, it cost me $2,800.00

and that wasn't even touching the block!

I would estimate it at, at least $2500 for an ST (all parts and hardware and labor).

it sounds like you got ripped off... i would have thought that it would be around 1k to have head work done.

i had my cylinder head decked full valve job and pressure test done for like 160. that kit i posted a link to is everything all gaskets, water pump, oil pump, timing belt, pistons, rings, main bearings. so all you would need is the machine work look for a shop in the yellow pages that does just engine machine work. you should be able to get all the parts and machine work done for under 1k

i did erynn's ST for about 680. that was the cost of a gasket kit, new water pump, new idler bearing, polishing the crankshaft, and all the labor i did.

Well, I went to a professional shop and paid for labor and parts. Came with an unlimited parts and labor warranty for 3 years. I guess if you do it yourself (good luck) or pay a buddy to do it, then prolly lower cost. Mine's also a 5sfe GT.

Alright, if any of you are in the East Coast (New England), give me some shops that'll do this work for up to a grand. I can't find any for less then 2,000 and I would love to go where you guys go for these awesome prices. I have a 96 integra that could use a nice overhaul and I was quote nearly 3,000 dollars. Help me to not get screwed. Shop names???

rebuild = turbo time... weigh the pros and cons. rebuilding all depends on how much is needed to be rebuilt!

I just need to know some of the shop you fellow members go to to get rebuilds under a grand. No turbo for me Garin, not at this time anyway, I have school loans which will be kicking in pretty soon.

Option 1:Rebuild the engine only if you know your way around it or would like to have some experience. It will save you money but you will have some down time on the car if its your only vehicle. Because some shops will take about a day or two to rebuild your head if they are busy.
Option 2: Pay a little more and find a good running motor.Drop it in yourself and get it running in a day.(may be you can even get one for less than rebuilding the head.)
Option 3: If your not mechanically incline to do option 1 or 2. Its cheaper to source out a motor and have a shop swap it. Some shops will charge almost the same or more if they pull the head off and reinstall it. Per price for parts and labor. Junk yards will have the motor for relatively cheap if you search and know how to find a good motor. This would be the route i would take if i want to get my car back out on the roads asap.

If you want go ahead and rebuild the head or block i recommend finding a reputable shop and shop around for the best prices if you have a spare DD. Good luck.
