about 2 cups of coolant is disappearing every 200 miles from the radiator.

I have a brand new radiator that came with a new cap, i put new hoses. The overflow reservoir is remaining at the same level always. There are no leaks and no coolant is in the oil. . . .

Where is it going and if it is just "using" it, why is it not sucking back the missing from the reservoir? Bad radiator cap? Something else? Any help appreciated... biggrin.gif

No, it looks like a hooker put her acid vag on your hood. Acid vag = bigger problem than a few dings.

throw some of the uv dye in the coolant and go from there...do a pressure test on the coolant system...see if it holds pressure

I might try that next..... I tried to change the radiator cap today but it seems the radiator is a non standard size and other caps besides what came with it wont fit. I also bled all the air out of the system today.

i had a hairline crack where the round part for the cap meets the top plastic piece...it was hissing out and burning off before it hit the ground, i could smell it but couldn't see it...check those areas (top and bottom) for tiny cracks. if it just bubbles out it can burn off before it hits the ground

its a brand new all metal radiator.

UPDATE: ok so i've been topping off the radiator for a while now, and no changes to the system have been done. The reservoir has remained at the "full" level each time i've filled the radiator.

BUT yesterday, all of a sudden when i shut the car off, ALL the extra coolant I've been putting goes into the reservoir and then onto the floor when it filled up.

Where does it disappear to and why did come back with such a vengeance, and instead of gradually fill the overflow just dump it all at once?

it seems so, If i remove the radiator cap when hot it definitely releases the pressure...

how fast does it build pressure when you start it from cold? how does the coolant smell? is there any 'scum' ontop of the coolant?

from just leaving the car on idle until it reaches temperature it will take 15-20 min. While driving it, it seems to build pressure in about... 10-15 min, or about 10-15 miles of driving.

no the coolant is clean, if you are implying that oil might be getting in, or vice versa, no. Both the oil and the coolant are clean and have no traces of each other mixing.

i swear i have the strangest issues.. lol.

ok i did not know that, didn't mean to sound smart if thats how it came across.... i appreciate all the help bitter.

i was always under the impression it would mix if the head gasket was the cause.. what could be the problem?

I guess it seems fixed for now, i changed the thermostat, the temperature had been going from half to "too hot" within seconds so i figured it was worth the change...... so far the car gets to operating temp alot quicker, and no more overheating or loss of coolant.
