Rotors.. How to change?, Is there a sticky about this? |

I want to change the rotors in my car.
Is this something easy that I ca do myself? Or is something a little complicated that I need to take it to a shop. Is just that I like doing everything myself. Does anybody know where the sticky or message about changing the rotors is? Is there a sticky about this? Any help thank you guys... -------------------- Luis

Although there is info in that thread about rotor removal, it really dosent go that in depth. Not that it needs to either. Removal of a rotor is a simple process. When I did mine, i took off the wheel (of course its jacked up as well), then took out the caliper bolts, and hung the caliper out of the way (as to not put stress on any of the lines. For me the rotor came off with little problems. But if it does give you an issue, there should be two threaded holes on the rotor, get a bolt that fits it (cant recall as of now though) and thread those in there. Alternating back and forth between the bolts "tighten" them in there and use that to push the rotor out. And when you do the rears make sure the parking brake is off! Also if your doing the rotors might as well do the pads!

yeah its an easy job, the hardest part is sometimes you need to get some WD-40 and give it a wringle and some taps with a mallet seeing as its been sitting there for years.

yea!! i bought the whole wheel assembly piece or whatever the other week and the rotor was stuck on i hit it about 20 times before it came loose

Caliber bolts are size 17in right? Say if I wanted to replace the pads as well, I would need a 14?

I can not remember off the top of my head what size mm they are. But where do you get 14mm from? To replace the pads I just took off one caliper bolt, swing it upwards, popped the old pads, used a caliper compressor, and threw the new pads on (which reminds me its about time for new pads soon).
Sorry but the "...size 17in" kind of throws me. You know what, Im going to go and see what size the head was...wait one Ok, cant tell you the pitch or anything, but it was a 12mm coarse thread. |

maybe he meant the front caliper bracket bolts??

Maybe, guess we'll have to wait and see then. But he has an ST, and unless he did the upgrade (which I dont really know...let me look....yeah, nothing in profile, but who knows) and ST's have drums in rear, so there is no caliper back there. BTW TiGZ, it mm, not in....cause 17 inch would be freggin huge!

lol yea I'm sorry bout that I meant 17mm. But I guessed wrong, and question answered, I have done brake job on a few Euro car's and had mixed things up. lol where the hell did i get 17in??
