I HAVE A 97 CELICA GT 2.2L AMERICAN MODEL AND I WANT TO ASK YOU 6GC FANS TO SEE WHAT CAN I DO TO ADD MORE HORSEPOWER TO MY CAR. THE REASONS ARE THAT I HAVE A FEW FRIENDS THAT HAVE THE FOLLOWING MODELS: 94-2001 ACURA INTEGRA GSR/LS, 94-2000 HONDA CIVIC EX/SI THAT WANTS TO RACE ME A QUARTER MILE. MY MAIN FOCUSED IS TO BEAT THE 94-2001 ACURA INTEGRA GSR THAT COMES WITH 180 HP STOCK. IS IT POSSIBLE TO BEAT IT WITHOUT SWAPPING YOUR ENGINE. MOST OF THEM HAD SAY THAT CELICAS ARE WEAK AND IT MAKES ME MAD. NEED HELP. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
HAS ANYBODY ABLE TO BEAT THESE MODELS BEFORE? ( WITHOUT SWAPPED ENGINES BUT ONLY MODIFICATIONS STUFF) SO FAR MY CAR HAS: 1. CARBON FIBER HOOD 2. EBAY HEADER 3. INJEN SHORT RAM INTAKE SYSTEM 4. WHAT ELSE ARE OUT THERE THAT I CAN BUY...(GOOD SPRAK PLUGS & WIRE<DOES IT HELP?) |

I think your best bet would honestly be turbo the 5s and have a 5sfte. Or maybe open up ur engine and upgrade internals and fuel system ext. I think the stock 5s has like what 120ish ? Even if you upgraded the internals i think your just then looking at 180ish. If you upgrade the clutch that makes a huge difference. then if you go boost your looking at around 200-260.
Correct me if im wrong just my .02 |

Yeah you might be able to beat it stock.......off the line (and that depends on the driver, reaction time...etc), but dont expect much more than that. I think stock the gt has 135 (to the crank), but take into account the age and condition of the engine and drop that number down some (round 100-105?). If you do some searching even with all that plus cams your looking at around the 120 range. I just pulled some of those numbers from searching.
If you want more power your going to need to do forced induction. After doing a bit more searching on google I found that the "fastest" 5sfe was 145 to the wheels. So im pretty much going to say what everyone else is going to say, all that money going into a 5sfe build could be money going into a swap. Or you can do what I do, go and find some nice twisty roads and have fun driving and dont worry about whos car is fastest, just have fun driving. |

I agree, just have fun. Im only at roughly 145 hp at the crank and im happy. I do hear though, that you can push it to 180 hp at most keeping it N/A, that is... without opening up the block.

For what it's worth, I've beat a Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX and a Mustang GT in my old truck at the local dragstrip before. It's not always what car has the most power or the least weight. It isn't always the driver. To the OP, as stated earlier, just have fun with the car. Do all the maintenance to keep it running great. What have you really accomplished if you race those cars and win? You might feel good about yourself for a day or two, but that feeling fades. Then you look back and you realize you've spent a ton of money on your car and those guys, if they spent the same amount of money on their cars, are STILL faster. Congratulate your friends for having fun cars, then drive away knowing that yours will last longer and looks better.

Congratulate your friends for having fun cars, then drive away knowing that yours will last longer and looks better. exactly this. I have my friends and cousins with turbo charged RSX and all those hondas and what not and they've either crashed their cars or it's a rust bucket. They don't say anything about how fast(slow) my car is but they do know that I take care of my car and that it has lasted longer than theirs. They're always asking me how i keep my car so nice and clean and believe me it's not. So just drive it and enjoy it. Welp i did race a 95 Integra GSR with basic modifications. Mine was only a GT stock with a short intake system. The GSR only pulled away from third gear but first and second seems like i can win. Yea, it is like you guy said too...but another thing if I mention the GT-Four to my friends..duhh... they are gona mention the Acura Integra Type R...im pretty sure a GT4 will beat a Type R tho...okie enough thanks 6GC fans...

Si's are weak... He told me he had engine work done. I don't know what kind, but he told me he did. But honestly... Tell him to race you for best times at an auto-x or something. Tell him let's see how good the driver is, not the car EDIT: Oh, and I beat him with a short ram intake and headers. The rest is stock. I ran a 15.9 and he ran a 16.3. if you want to beat the GSR, get a 7th gen celica GT-S. i have a 97 GT also and its turboed. im using my stock All-Trac manifold and turbo. its making 180 HP and 230 TQ. it pulls nicely, but the car is so much heavier than a GSR i think he will still beat you. read up on Pressure2's thread and mine on turboing the 5S-FE. also read the stickys.

They're not illegal, they're the same as any other JDM cars, i.e. Skyline, Silvia, etc. It just costs a ****load to bring them over here and get them up to snuff with U.S. emissions standards. It's easier just to get a Celica here, get the 3SGTE, GT-Four tranny and AWD conversion, and later do the GT-Four bodywork. Boom, RHD GT-Four. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

here is what i did, i konw its not much, and it sunds stupid, but love is the key. i went and bought royal purple oil, and filter. a cold air intake and thats it engine wise. !now! go thought all the things that make things easy for you car to go faster, oil the wheel berings, change the transmition oil. look for parts on your ar that arent necesary. such as there are a few pices of metal used for a holder for something in the compartment in the back right corner of the trunk, also look in the engine bay. run some injector cleaner through a few times. simple things like this really do make a diference!
i beat my friends wrx sub;i yesterday. all he had to say were excuses. -------------------- It takes 8,460 bolts to assemble an automobile, and one nut to scatter it all over the road.
