Ok so i have a 95 st. I just rebuilt the 1.8 5000 miles ago as soon as i bought it. Im 16 and this is my first car and ive been driving for a couple months and am already bored of it. I simply want something faster. I already have brand new rims, c-one body kit and racing fenders and a new paintjob so now im looking to get this thing moving. I havent read much but ive read about the beams engine. So my question. I either want to A.) Build my 1.8 and turbo it. B.) Buy a 2.2, built it, turbo it. C.) Buy a jdm swap beams etc., and possibly turbo it. I just want some suggestions on what i should do. Money is not an issue but i dnt want to spend over 2500. Thanks to anyone that trys to help.

for any swap you're looking at spending at least 6 grand minimum... from what im told.

do some searching buddy, ALL the probable, possible, and impossible motor swaps for a 6gc have been discussed too many times.

also some great build threads to follow.

edit: anyway, no disrespect but at 16 id be more focused on becoming familiar with the car and becoming a better driver, driving techniques, etc.

not gonna bash you cuz your young. but I will say, read up. I must've read thru this forum for a few months before getting to know celicas and how they work. If your budget is 2500 then just get basic bolt ons and use it as your daily driver. No need for speed yet.

Alright, I'm done being a smartass now. Time for the helpful part of my post. Seriously though, $2,500 won't take you as far with a Celica as it would with, say, a Honda. A popular slogan around 6gc is "you gotta pay to play." These cars were never very popular so parts are often hard to find and very costly. As far as your idea of buying/building the 2.2 liter 5S-FE engine, the work would be literally the same as swapping in the 2.0 3S-GE BEAMS engine or better yet, the 3S-GTE engine (from the Celica GT4.) All three swaps into an ST are roughly the same amount of work, but the BEAMS and the 3S-GTE would yield more power for your money. The easiest swap for your car would be a 4A-GE engine. Or there's even the option of just adding a turbo to your 1.8 liter 7A-FE. A few members have done that and although peak numbers weren't earth shattering, they weren't bad either. But please click the link below. It has all kinds of useful information to you. Any questions not covered in the link below, feel free to ask.

Oh, and don't take the "Don't ask stupid questions" posts seriously. They're bound to come later in this thread, but you'll just have to look past them. A basic search will find you almost any answer to any question you have, so there are some people who will snap because you asked a question but there will always be someone turn up and give you a real answer.

And, as always, a thread just isn't a thread without pictures. So post some pictures of your car up! Maybe try to look in the Multimedia section and enter your car in the June Celica of the Month thread.

Ok maybe im just not understanding but a beams engine is 2500. My dad can do the swap. therefore not being a smartass just simply asking for someone to expalin how its gonna cost another 3500 to put the motor in?

I agree they are a some what rare car which makes harder to get parts for say you need something from a junkyard but i wanted a car that not everyone at my school had. Noone has a 6g celica everyone has neons and civics. But thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

ok, doing a swap is all about power goals... now, first ill say this b4 the 6gc advisors do, that street racing isnt tollarated on this site (just a heads up) how ever.. if u so happened to pull up on a stock gsr integra (lets pretend on the track) you would have a pretty closee race with a beams swap bc the beams produces 197hp factory and i believe the gsr is like 210 or so. now chances are , you will lose, but you will beat some other cars liek stock LS's and such.

now you cant turbo the beams bc the compression is to high which u may argue then why can you turbo a gsr? idk thats jsut what ive read and its pointless bc you should just buy a 3rd gen 3sgte. which you can get a reliable 300whp vs 197 crank hp with the beams. if u want to beat alot of cars and have a good mid to low 13sec car, go witht he 3sgte.. that swap in the long run will run you around 5k prob. 3-4k if you do proper reasearch and find GOOD parts for a good price. its all about being paitent. the beams swap wont cost you 6k.. i dont think anyway, since u have a ST and not a GT a 3rd gen swap will prob run you 5k idk..

like i said its power goals, i bought a 3rd gen 3sgte motor back in april and im saving up as im going to buy parts for it so i can finish start and finsih the swap at once.
i was told you can beat sti's and s2000s with a 3sgte, so if thats waht u wanna set ur goal as, idk go with the 3sgte.. _Jim_ sells them, look him up on the site and he will help u out with ur budget. but he wont get you a beams so dont ask him lol.

The engine itself with all sensors and harness can be had for ~ 2500, true, but are you planning to use the old clutch that will come with it ? water pump ? timing belt ? PVC valve ? Pressure plate ?, Old oil ? filter ? Trans fluid ? coolant ?

just to give you an idea, I spent over 160 just on engine oil, trans fluid, coolant, power sterring fluid,m brake / clutch fluid.
you'll also need spark plug, maybe rotor and cap ? air filter, fuel filter.
the list gets longer and longer the deeper you get into the swap.

and what's your budget for the odd ends you'll need in the middle of the swap ?

I'm in no way telling you not to do it, but there is more to a swap than just an engine. you don't wanna have to pull that engine out a week later to replace the timing belt, so you better plan ahead to replace it while the engine is out.

I bought recently the following

Water pump
rear main seal
clutch / pressure plate
valve cover gasket ( head overhaul kit actually )
spark plugs
fuel filter
exhaust / intake manifold gaskets ( included on the kit )
Timing belt

that's just the basic parts that are recomended the replace during a swap, I order some more, but that was personal preference. go and look up yourself how much these parts cost, I ordered everything from the dealer, except for clutch / pressure plate.

here is my 2 cents smile.gif
ok if you have the money and a different car to drive do a 3sgte swap. it will take some time but that seems like the fastest route to go. i mean the 7a was just not really built for power. a couple ppl on here have really done some amazing things to the 7a but that is a whole other ball game.
you also have to question your patience. if you want it done right it will take time you cant just throw it in and expect it to just get up and go. you also have to think about the wiring harness on a 3s gte swap. those come from rhd cars so you have to get the wiring harness lengthened and hopefully the guy does it right. my buddy was doing a 1jz swap in his supra and the guy he sent the harness to totally screwed it up and it was like 300 down the drain.
i myself have looked into making the st faster but honestly it is that last thing on my list. for me suspension comes first. that car was built more to hug corners than drag race. i find the corners to be more fun anyways haha well i hope this helps

i know how much a beams engine is, a 3sgte can be had for about that as well.

culpable knows what he is talking about, being in the process of swapping himself wink.gif listen to him for sure.

Ask any other person who has swapped themselves, they'll give you an estimate which is equivalent to what i told you. i didnt make it up, im just passing along the info. biggrin.gif

you have to pay to play... very simple... you want a fast car - buy something else... you want a UNIQUE fast car.. then the celica is where you are at... but its not going to be cheap... as everyone states above... there's always extras that need to be bought... ALWAYS... i've done three swaps now and they are never what they seem... and now you're making some real power... say 300 hp... wheres the 1000's you will need to combat wheel hop, suspension sway, braking, and getting that power to the wheels

I'm 20 and probably the closest to your age posting on this thread. i love to go fast as my record will show you... but these guys are right ..... i started doing my swap and i put a excel spread sheet together and damn it adds up quick. i have a different dd right now. But once I'm done I'm planning on keeping the car forever daily driver at first till i get a truck then just a weekend and summer car. All i have to say is i would get at least 5gs ready. Say you buy the motor for 2500 + trans 500+ a good clutch combo with a flywheel will be ^500 if you take apart the motor and replace the essentials id say ^300 + intake exhaust depending on the intercooler route you want to go you either have to get a new hood or buy an fmic. and last if anything does break because **** happens just remember you cant go down to auto zone and get the part if you get a 3sgte your probably going have to special order it.

Just saying you need to be making bank to get it to where you want it to be. and the suspension should defiantly be updated.

Im 16 too , and I want my gt to be fast too but what I did was instead of engine swaps I just made my car better for me. I put 7gc seats in there they look really sharp. New sound system. I plan on buying riser blocks. Just keep you car as a dailey driver. my brother worked on his Camaro as a daily driver and sometimes it sat for weeks with out moveing and he was out of a car. What I will do instead of makeing my car faster, Im just going to but one something American Muscle I think.
