is that from the celicatech manual or a toyota shop manual?

I have that from some special electrician's manual I saw at authorized Toyota service station. Something what Toyota distribute only for own service stations...

You wouldn't happen to have a wiring diagram of what you've got done in this picture, would you Malpaso?

So... I have found one already created by Dustin:

and just to match my terms smile.gif wires of relay I have talked about:

"switching" ones: #85, #86
"connecting" ones: #30, #87

Wires in the picture below are using pins #87 and #30 (according to picture above). That's why when you make shortcut between those two wires foglights will be permanently on...

...and just to make info complete here is description of OEM relay (lower one in the picture of course smile.gif) taken from Toyota's repair manual. You can find out which pin is what smile.gif

This is perfect; make sure you've put those pictures in the "6GC HOW TO" Photobucket account - and if there isn't already a sticky for this, I NOMINATE IT TO BECOME A STICKY!

The relay is behind your fuse box. Lay down in the floor and look up and you should see it. If your car is a '96, you should already have the wiring run for the fogs, but I'm not sure about the relay. I know you'll have to install a switch. There's a good thread for that.

Edit: Found the link.

I’m new to this list. I know I'm bringing this topic back from the dead but I hope you'll understand why. I have a ’99 Celica and would like my fog lights to be powered up with the parking lights, not in the headlight circuit as Toyota designed it.

I tried to utilize the information and the photos in this thread to modify it. Unfortunately, the directions are not applicable to the 1999 model year. The blue relay shown in the photo looks the same as the one on my car, but on mine it is a starter relay. (It says so right on the relay and the car won’t start without it.)

Here’s a photo of what my fuse & relay box looks like: http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab316/t...k/99FuseBox.jpg

There are several other relays but I haven’t a clue as to which relay might be for the fog lights. If anyone knows how to do this, I’d appreciate the help.

Go to CelicaTech and do the search. You cut one wire to the relay and that goes to a switched (ign on) 12v source. Find that with a multimeter and splice in. You don't need a separate switch. You can determine which relay by turning on headlights/fogs. Turn the fog switch off & on, listen for the click. Put you finger on the relay to be sure you have the right one. More than likely the fog relay wires are the same color between 5th & 6th gen. Check the write up against the manual to be sure.

One thing, before you find the fog relay and do what Malpaso posted prior. I would connect the #30 and #87 wires to the parking-light relay and keep the high-current circuit (foglights, #85, #86) separate from the low-current switch (fog switch, #30, #87) circuit. Can't say you'd surely have issues directly switching the lights, but I'm not sure just how much current the foglight switch can handle.

Back on topic, you're looking at the wrong fuse/relay box. The one with the fog relay is under the driver-side kick panel. Jump into your driver's seat, reach down to the left of the clutch/brake pedal and you'll feel a plastic nut. Unscrew it, then you'll need to pull off some of the door trim. Pull all the trim out and then pull the kick-panel off. You'll see a bunch of wires and a jumper block or two. The foglight relay is at the top, it's hard to see/get to because there's such little room to work with. You may need to pull the lower-dash under the steering wheel as well. There's 4 screws to get it all off I believe.

One wire, one splice. Done. Your not bypassing the the relay, or doing anything to the switch. The switch sends 12v to the relay, the relay sends 12v to the fogs, fogs light up. ONLY thing that has changed is the fogs come on when you turn on the fog switch. The reason why is you changed to a 12v source with the ign. on, instead of it getting the 12v source that is available ONLY with low beam lights on.

This. If this works, by all means do it, it's the easiest method of getting control over your fogs.

I did this in my current car ('02 Corolla S) and it allows me control over the fog relay. I can hear the relay click at any point if my ignition is on. However, the fogs only turn on when the parking lights or lows/highs are on (from the factory, they ONLY turn on with the lows, not with the parking lights or the highbeams). This is because the foglight power (the high-current circuit, between the #85 and #86 contacts) is only receiving +12v when the TAIL relay is switched on, which only happens when the light switch is on parking lights or lows/highs. It's real annoying.

Now that I recently had time to examine it, I understand you fully and appreciate the advice. By listening and feeling it click I know which relay powers the parking lights (one on one board) and which relay powers the fog lights (one on a different board). You can call me lazy smile.gif - but I'd like to know by color code which wire it is that sends power from the parking light switch when it is turned on. If I can locate that and use the parking light feed instead of the headlight feed, that's the way I want to do the change. Taking both those under-dash panels down to locate the one correct wire is a real PITA, and short of that it's tough, as there must be at least a hundred wires there. I can pick probe the wires to verify the switched hot wire feed coming from the parking light switch. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that will tell which wire it is?

Oh, and it would also help to know which wire is the headlight switch feed that is currently powering that fog relay. biggrin.gif
