thanks for the compliments
Me and the woman have been spending a lot of time the last few months with our Beams swap. I got my motor set (everything pictured) from JHot-imports-TX from ebay. my updates... painted my engine bay black installed fully adjustable coilovers rolled fenders and installed 15mm spacers swapped my seats from my 97 parts car installed and wired st205 wrc heatx spray bar 96+ headlight stalk w/fog light switch to work with my 95 JDM fower folding mirrors and I'm going to install GT-Four front brakes in a few weeks I've been driving the car daily with really no problems for about 2 years now the problems I've had in that time was a bad driver's axle (I had a 17 year old all trac outer that wasn't any good so I replaced it with a new reman one) and a slight fender bender (been repaired since). all in all I've just been driving the car. It starts, runs, drives, and boosts better than any car I've ever owned. -------------------- |

okay, thanks. why choose the E153 over the s54 though? not that i'm questioning the build in any way, i'm just trying to learn (= The e153 has longer gears and is better suited for the power goals that Dustin had. The S54 will work just fine for a stock-ish 3S, but anything over ~300whp is better off with the e153. Plus a lot of the e153's had LSD, and the S54 doesn't (in most cases.) -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. After 3 years I decided to do some maintenance.
Over the last few weeks I've have been working on my car slowly just taking my time with it, because it's been a little neglected. I put in a new clutch, lw flywheel, new outer axles, Blitz ECU, GT-Four front brakes, fresh rears (rotors/pads/new caliper), kirk mount inserts, re-painted front bumper, and a nice buff and wax. I had a spec clutch and OEM fw and over time the shifting was getting worse. I feared the springs in the disk were getting worn and about to pop so I decided to pull it before anything catastrophic happened. The disk was glazed and the springs looked moved a bit but still in the disk. I went with an Exedy stage 1 this time and so far I'm extremely happy with it. Good pedal feel, smooth engaging, great for daily driving. I also went with a chromoly lw flywheel for shiz and giggles. I picked up new st185 outers, greased the crap out of them and put those in. I picked up a Blitz tuned st205 ECU a while back and never installed it until recently. The car seems to pull harder with it but it doesn't run the w2a IC set up like stock so I wired the w2a to run full time when the car is on. The GT-Four front brakes have been on the back burner for about a year now and this was the best time to install. I replace my rear pads/cut rotors about a month ago and the fronts were toast. Details on the install here. I was going to install the GT-Four rears also, but I don't really care about those right now. Edit : I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate bleeding brakes. Thank Jesus my wife can put up with me and do the most simple tasks I just cannot do. I did have a problem a few months back, my car would shut off after about 16 seconds. I traced it to the fuel pump resistor and also found out it's a common fault for st205s. A new 205 resistor is unavailable in the US and the st185 one (same resistance) is double the price meant I had to get creative. After a ton of research I found out the fuel pump resistor from a mid 90s Landcruiser part # 23080-66030 has the same resistance and was about $40 from Toyota. Bought it, swapped the plug, drive the car again. Without the resistor I just ran the fuel pump at full power all the time (bridged fp and b+ in the diagnostic box), not really a bad thing but I wanted to keep it like stock. Other than that, no real problems, I just drive the car. This post has been edited by Batman722: Jul 31, 2011 - 7:48 PM -------------------- |
