ok so i went to the store bought everything needed to do my water pump and timing belt over the weekend
98 celica 5sfe convertible i got everything set up and started taking everything apart.. everything was cherry until ....i got to the crank pulley bolt .. it will not move..ive tried 3 different impact guns ive tried a special tool to hold the pulley in place with the bolt holes and the tool broke.. ive tried a single bolt and a pry bar to hold it in place and the bolt bent all to hell.. is there anything else i cant try to take this bolt out ...safely ? id appreciate it if you guys have some ideas, i have 1 day left to work on it.. then have to travel back to school |

I used the starter method but use it at your own risk I don't want to be reliable if you do it wrong Google it and you will know what I mean.

I used the starter method but use it at your own risk I don't want to be reliable if you do it wrong Google it and you will know what I mean. dont think this will work for me ...i already have taken the top section of the timing belt off ....and the engine is on TDC #1 comp ..has anyone tried heating the bolt up ? i heard that works .. |

you need a better impact and more importantly a better air compressor to drive it.
the starter method could work, how are you going to re-torque it? -------------------- |

I loosened the crank bolt before I took anything off because I knew I was gonna run into this problem if I didn't do it first, you can always reconnect the timing belt and use the starter trick will save you time and headaches and worked with the first starter blip for me. -------------------- "To Protect And To Serve The Wealthy" -POLICE

there is something called liquid wrench that freezes it and makes it easier..

Yeah, Granger makes something like that as well...freezing it causes the metal to contract, thus allowing an easier removal/installation (plus the Granger stuff also acts as a lube at the same time)

ive put the car in gear and had a friend hold the breaks, if its a manual. you need to use 5th, though, and keep on the breaks HARD

I tried liquid wrench on mine. It didn't work lol. I got tired of messing with it so I took it to the machine shop and he used some tool and got it off in like a few seconds. He did It for free but I paid him 20$ just for the help.
