Hi if this is in the wrong part of the forum please move it.

My 1998 celica st has an air conditioning, but the unit has never been touched throughout its lifetime. It still works but the air is not true cold anymore. A slight breeze would be more like. I know that AC devices require upkeep but I am very much afraid of the domestic AC service people. Heard too many horror stories from people with ruined air conditioners. Can you please recommend exactly how the celi's AC device is maintained and how can I spot a person who actually know his/her/both job from a greedy idiot. Thank you!

If its not blowing cold, you have a leak somewhere. Freon cannot go bad by sitting.

Theres not much you can do to find a leak in your own garage. A mechanic would have to vacuum down the system, and recharge the system with dye to find the leak. Then all you can do is go from there.

In wisconsin and i know a few other states over here in the US cannot just top off the ac system and let you on your way. I'm sure the rules are different by you though.

I work on a/c systems often and thats what i do when at work.
