I was looking at putting a tow bar on my car earlier for towing my seadoo. They're rated at 2000 lbs. and U-Haul or something like that is your best bet for getting one put on. Yes, there's a rare tow rack option that was offered through toyota, but i'm sure it'd be more expensive if you were able to locate one.

i bet your cars were cursing ya'll out the entire trip too! its possible, but in all honesty, it may not be wise to use a vehicle lighter than the tow load... ive been in an accident like that on 95. 84 crown victoria towing a 92 oldsmobile somethin...

You want power but have no money. That's a problem.

Cheap. Reliable. Fast. Pick two.

Old thread, but I wanted to throw in my story for anyone looking to do something similar..
Towed a loaded Uhaul trailer -very near the 2000lb limit- nonstop from Columbus OH to Austin TX, about 1,200 miles.
My car has about 225,000 on the clock and it was close to 100 degrees out during the day. Kept it at 60mph and turned the AC off for some hills, but she did great and the temp gauge never moved.
I love my car.

Soon as I can confirm I am able to keep my civic I will hopefully be towing it with the Celica to autocross and rallycross events. Overall my civic has gotta be gettin close to 2000lbs, I've got it mostly stripped down on the inside and once I confirm it's my new track whore I will finish stripping it. I figured I'd be able to tow the civic with the celica, good to see other ppl have done this without major issues smile.gif

Believe it or not towing capacity is not determined by horse power.

What makes a car safe to tow another one is determined by the weight of the car vs its towing load weight. The idea behind this is using a paper weight to hold down a sheet of paper. If your paper weight is not heavy enough the sheet of paper will blow away. Same concept happens when towing a car. If your towing car is not heavy enough it will not be able to handle side winds, wiggles and whip lash from the trailer.

Secondly the brakes would have to be up to the task of stopping the load safely without over heating if used repeatably.

anyone remember this video? semi truck tow by wrx

towing another car in town is easy but towing it at highway speeds is a whole different creature.

Dunno about towing but I got towed in my Celica yesterday morning by a Renault Megane 1.4lt and I was hating it couldn't start the engine so had no power steering and dodgy braking have to admit it was hairy.
