So I'm looking to do an auto to manual swap sometime in the spring of 2011.
I just want to get a feel for how much it might cost. Since I have a parts car with an engine that has 126k on it, I am going to swap it in as well when I do the tranny swap. Here's the catch, after I do that, I'm going to save up for a 3rd Gen 3sgte Engine and swap that in hopefully sometime in 2012. So should I get a s54 tranny or the e153 with the forward conversion? (Or do the conversion myself) I'd appreciate it very much if you guys could help me out! |

my advice ..if you want a manual ...sell your car and get a manual
theres alot of parts you need to buy ....my manual s54 tranny just went out and i had a heck of a time looking for just another tranny or a rebuild kit honestly if the 5sfe is stock ...keep it stock ...running auto ecu with manual tranny may fail smog..screw up the cruise control if you plan on the 3sgte ...find the shop your getting the motor from ...chances are there will be a fwd tranny you can grab ....take both at the same time for a cheaper price ... while everything is out ...is easier for you to add the extra parts to the car to make it a manual....or get an mr2 rear clip and convert everything as for the e153 conversion ...there no point doing it on a stock motor ....maybe better fuel mileage ... lower highway cruise rpm ...it will make your engine dog This post has been edited by chinamandrift: Aug 24, 2010 - 10:05 PM |

So in the long run, it would be more cost effective to sell the 5s out of my parts car and then save up for a 3sgte? I'm most likely going to try and get the engine through Jim

to make everything easier you can start off with a manual celica ....
thats not an option i would wait to get both the tranny and engine all the same time from the same shop .... then install all the components need for a manual dropping engine and tranny in same time cuz its easier droping tranny only and trying to put another tranny on ...then having to change engines make more work |

getting a manual celica isn't really an option because I just fixed up mine from it being in an accident and I just put a ton of work into it.
And yeah that's very truee, I'll try to get them both at the same time if I can |
