yeah i believe the green tops are easier to find. i never even heard of yellow tops untill i searched them. oh one more thing, the yellow tops need to have the side ribs grounded down, they are not 100% P&P. just file the side ribs down and the plug will snap on just fine

QUOTE (Smaay @ Aug 17, 2010 - 9:17 AM) *
to Stener: 200HP should be fairly easy on a stock block. 250 might be pushing it but i dont know enough about the strength of teh internals. i can tell you this, the 1ZZ-FE rods in the MR2 and 7th gen celica can handle 350 HP and the the 7A rods are much beefier. the pistons also look to be a bit stronger, so take that for what its worth.

Alright, thanks. I've been turbocharging alot of Volvos but never on a Toyota so i have no clue how the internal components will react to this! I wanna be on the safe-side since this is my everyday car that i go to the store, work with etc. I'm thinking of using stock air-intake and stock engine including head with original camshafts and all that, And just weld my own twin-entry turbo exhaust manifold and boosting through a intercooler. And i'll probably put in a MegaSquirt unless there's a good chip or something to control the fuel with that doesn't cost a fortune. I don't know what ECU that's stock in these even.

And how much boost you think i could run with without wearing out the engine?

My english might not be the best, I'm a swede!

Stener, If this setup works out then you dont need any ECU. using the Supra injectors (315 or 295) and the 3S-GTE gen 2 MAP sensor, this is a happy combination. i dont see any reason this setup will hurt your engine.

Alright. The standard ECU can adjust the amount of fuel needed by the MAP signal without any modifications? Is there a MAP sensor standard that i just need to replace?

I really appreciate the help, I'm totally novice when it comes to Toyota smile.gif

Thanks. Does it matter which generation it comes from?

I'll be checking around on scrapyards for a MAP sensor first of all smile.gif

Where did you get the oil to the turbo from? Is there an oil pressure sensor convenient that i can remove and put a "T" on and use it to get oil to the turbo aswell?
I'll lower down the oil pan and weld an oil return asap.

Smaay, does this apply to the 3/5SFE too?
Just a 3SGTE map sensor and Supra 315 injectors with the std ECU running std 3SGTE actuator pressure - 7-8psi??

the oil pressure sensor is the best place. its right under the thermostat housing. put the T on there and 18" -3 line will work perfectly. look at the pictures. its a 2nd gen 3S-GTE MAP sesnor

@ Stener do you know the 7a in the Carina E is a leanburn engine?
It has the leanburn system between the head and inlet manifold.

Don't know if this is a problem if you're gonna turbo it because the 7a in the Carina E is designed to run lean all the time.

Yea the lean burn system will probably screw that up, I guess it's in the ECU software aswell to run in lean burn mode so i might need to get a box from another car with the same engine management system but without lean burn and remove all components linked to lean burn. Or can you remove it completely by removing the physical components?

Thanks for all the tips and i apologize if i'm ruining your good thread!

i believe the oil pressure sending unit is under the alternator and just above and to the left of the oil filter.

Alright, Great pic. Thanks for that.

I mixed up my engine, It was a 4A-FE, But they are basiclly the same right?
Also i heard some people making a mix between 7A engines and the 4A-GZE engines.

Anyone got more info on that? I guess they take the complete block from the 4A-GZE and the head from 7A-FE? The lowered compression and better pistons would make it alot easier.

And i guess it got better connecting rods, crankshaft etc? Since the 7A/4A-FE is a economy engine and everything is lightweight it probably won't hold for much pressure.

Well i finished the car last night. Let me tell you, its fun to drive. it has a very constant torque and pulls all the way to 7000 RPM. the setup that is final is this, pay attention smile.gif

My custom manifold
Garrett T3 super 60 turbo
polished aluminium pipes
Type RS BOV

ok thats the kit, now for the nitty gritty

Injectors used are the YELLOW 7M-GE 295cc injectors http://www.lextreme.com/7mge.html

Tuning im using a special built Split Second box. Now this is the cool part. the SS box has its own MAP sensor in it, so im using that and just feeding that signal back into the ECU. so you dont have to buy a 2BAR MAP sensor. If i produce this kit, then it will come with this SS box with the tune in it already. It will be the same tune for the green top injectors also

There are no other parts that i can think of necessary. however i highly recommend a better exhaust. the downpipe is plummed right into the stock exhaust so its pretty restrictive.

Ill post more pics tonight

Nice smile.gif I'm interested in that SS box you talking about, I guess it's a piggy back system. How is it to tune?

Thinking if it would be easier to connect a SS box or use a MegaSquirt instead.

i have never used a mega squirt but i know it can be powerful. the Split Second is very easy to tune with. im not good at escribing it, but im sure you can google it and get an idea. the software for it is called the R4

my 2 cents bc its my car: the difference is amazing, it's not the same car, literally. The power gain is very impressive. I will be getting a dyno after we change out the clutch and upgrade the down pipe on the exhaust. I am so happy with my car, I still can't believe that my 7a is performing like this. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
