Do you take it to redline or shift with the powerband?

With the 5S-FE, the power drops off significantly. You are best to shift and stay with the powerband rather than take it all the way to redline.

Depends on your mods, im running an intake and exhaust and that alone raises the power band a bit. But yes shift when the power band starts to drop off...

I got walked by a 2001 celica gt(no worries, in a controlled, safe and legal environment) in a straight line. We started at about 60 miles an hour, and I tried to stay in third gear, because forth has a lot less pull. But he was a good car length in front of me. I'm thinking it's time I stop being the slowest celica ever, and join club 5sfte biggrin.gif

7th gen Celicas will do that to us. Even the GT has 140 hp, to our 130. The GT-S has 180, so there's no competition between our cars stock and a 7th gen. With a 5S, it's best to shift wherever you have to as long as it keeps the car in power. Shifting at redline just wastes gas and time.

from my experience, shifting anywhere past ~5200 is useless. car makes plenty noise but zero power.

even though i have an auto, i drive it like a manual lol laugh.gif
i shift between 3 and 5k, about 5.5k when i floor it.
i know its probably not the best thing to do with an auto, but I have to semi practice shifting before I do an a2m swap

Hmm very many interesting responses. I will soon turbo this bad boy(been researching this 24/7 in awe for the past 6 months) And then walk this Celica. Then, and only then will people stop calling me "slow"

I will probably ending up doing that; I won't have the money to go through with this, and I'm not going to try and do it on a budget. But when I do build it, it will be badass, fast, and reliable.

Always shift at 3k.. Always.

Unless I feel like flooring it (When I get real pissed), I can go up to 5.5k. But it's very rare that I will exceed 3k. When I'm in a more sporty-driving mood I usually drive in the 3-4k but not more.

99% of the time I'm always in the 2-3k rpms. I wanna take care of it hehe. Although, at 2k and lower I feel like the car misses power/torque so much, it almost stalls.
