heres the deal. got a 96 celica and got a 95 motor. i swapped out the oil pump so i have a crank posit. sensor and i got a 96 distrubuter. put the motor in and its just turns. no starting or nothing. i put new cap and rotor and plugs and wires and coil. now i have spark on cyl 1 and 2 but is very minimal but no spark on 3 and 4 and that lost mee. i sprayd starter fluid in the intake to see if its getting fuel and it is but it still dont start on that either. im open to other ideas please help meeee!!! i need to get this car runnign so i can sell it! i have too many dang cars and i only use my 94 celica and my jeep.

most likely your grounds. Check them all. THe ones i know of are on each side of the struts, the right side connects to the starter bolt, the left side connects to the engine hook. I believe there is one off of the transmission. Or you could just keep throwing random grounds from the body to the engine. otherwise definately check your relays. Thats another strong possibility.

Maybe when you replaced the oil pump you some how messed up the mechanical timing

Maybe when you replaced the oil pump you some how messed up the mechanical timing welll thats what i thought. but i checked it all. there is a trickd to check the distributer timing i pulled of my valve cover and closed valve 1 and looked at my rotor on the ditributer and they say its supposed to be pointing at plug wire 1 on the cap and it does. the timing belt itself is rite were it needs to be. how sensative is the crank sensor like my brother dropped it and it has a small kink in it now, would it still read if that has it on the sensor? most likely your grounds. (not the outside crank pully, the timing belt one on the oil pump that goes on the crank...the 96+ has a trigger wheel attached to the pully, without it, the crank sensor wont work properly. just a tip incase you didnt, be very carefull when prying the pully off, the teeth break pretty easily. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

ok soo i got somewere with this. i pulled out my cranlk sensor and saw a kink on the face of the aluminum cylinder thing so i replaced it. now i got spark on 1 2 3 and 4 but i get spark on 3 and 4 when it wants to start. ill turn in and it will crank and then it will act like hey i want to starttt. but it dont soo chances are its timing so i assume thats why 3 and 4 cylinders ingnite only wen she wants to start. let me know what yall think.

sounds like timing to me. Redo timing belt positon.IMO

make sure the crank gear,cam gear are where there suppose to be cause u can not just go by the distributor and cam gear i had same issue cause it jumped a few gears and made it all out of whack.. if u have to re due the timing belt and put motor at TDC it will be worth it ... hey at least you will know for sure that is not the problem then move on to problems that associate with OBDl to OBD ll
