Hector wouldn't you want to replace the oem cat anyway with something high flow?

Yes I would, but if the cat wasn't welded on, I could've installed the header over 4 months ago lol. Now I need to wait till I have the extra money for a high flow cat.

I was doing some more reading on the header / exhaust, because I am an indecisive asshole that needs to read every little detail before I buy something, and I have read that stock, our cat is inside the exhaust manifold. So, where would you put a high flow cat on this car, do you buy an after-market "universal" one and have it welded in, or am I missing something? Maybe I should go outside and look a on the car, but I burn myself anytime I work on the damn thing at night.

Lol lemme break it down *vinyl record scratch* lol. The ST comes with two cats. The one inside the manifold and one after. With an aftermarket header, you'd be getting rid of the first one, relying on the last one. So it's a good idea to buy a quality cat to stick at the end. Ease your mind a bit?

How many does GT have, that is what I have, also yes, that eases my mind a bit, you are saying that your 2nd cat was welded to your stock manifold, correct?

Thanks

It sure is. And I'm fairly certain that the GT has 2 cats as well. I'm more familiar with the ST setup.

Anyone wanna chime in?

The GT Fed spec'd, 1994 only had one, and that was bolted directly to the exhaust manifold.

I think that one is physically inside of the exhaust manifold, if I have interpreted this correctly.

Yeah there should be. Just take off the heatshield and look. And if for some reason there isn't one inside the manifold, don't worry because if you're putting in an aftermarket header, it'll be gone anyway

i lost all my low end torque when i put my 2.5in cat-back, but gained it up top, if ur just going to keep the N/A setup prob do 2.25" .. and just run to advance auto and grab a cherry bomb glasspack res, thats what i did, it was like ~20 bucks and sounds great with my meagan racing muffler. i also got rid of my cat. i will say this with my ebay header, 2.5"cat-back with glasspack res and meagan muffler my 5s sounds mean, i get lots of compliments on it.

the cat issue depends on where the car was originally bought and/or assembled... my celica is an ST and it only had one caty, my brother has a civic of the same year, bought from the same dealer, with 2 cats.... it all just depends on where the car was built to be sold.. im pretty sure all cali models have 2 cats... the cat thats "inside the stock manifold" is really just built into it with flanges. if u take it out your stock exhaust will not fit back on the car bc u will have a huge gap.
