I just bought the ultimate exterior mod and i'm looking for a topic where there is all the infos for the installation.

I know that i've seen it in the past, but i can't find it anymore...

I found this topic for the LHD mod (wich i'm not sure if i will do it).

i never actually understood this conversion, like what does it exactly do?

The conversion is to convert them to light forward and not at an angle to oncoming traffic. JDM headlights angle to the left.

I haven't fixed my angle yet and don't plan to. I've never been highbeamed at so it isn't a problem. Night driving is also fine, not bad at all because it's super bright.

if youre talking about the conversation in fastbird's projector alteration thread here's the concern:

the RHD celicas beam points to the left a bit for better view at night.

problem is we dont drive on the left side of the road like they do in japan,

fastbird re-created a thread to better teach how to solve this problem, and to keep the light from pointing to the left, and consequently possibly blinding unsuspecting drivers.

I paid Sean to modify mine to be more LHD legal.....here are some pics I took some time ago, not the greatest pics but you get the idea.

It's pretty irresponsible to not convert them imo, especially when using HIDs. You WILL be blinding oncoming drivers.

That flick up on the left will be pointing right into their eyes.

Do you guys not have an annual inspection which tests things like this?

wow ya manphibian. Your are right that does blind oncoming traffic. I also see sometimes new bmw 5 series blinding me as I'm stopped at the traffic light, why is that??

Each state has different inspection requirements. In PA where I am, we have yearly safety and emissions inspections, and during the safety inspection they're "supposed" to check to be sure every exterior light's lens is DOT stamped - and the projectors aren't - so each year when I get it inspected they SHOULD fail but they never notice.

Projectors are technically illegal to have on the car in any state since the DOT stamp is a federal requirement. I always wondered what would happen if someone were to hit you (with non-modified projectors with HID's - illegal and illegal) at night and end up claiming they couldn't see the road - what would happen because the projectors aren't DOT stamped and installing HID's in a car that wasn't factory produced with HID's is illegal as well. I wonder if your insurance company could sue you for an illegal modification that they'd claim was the cause of the accident.

Agreed - if you're going put HID's in the projectors - you should do the LHD mod. They flare up quite a bit and you will blind people without fixing the cut-off.

very difficult to find a stamp on shards of glass. if they cant see you that means youll get hit in the front, and both projectors will be toast..

well i'm not sure if your insurance company would sue you or not, but i'd believe that they might go after the place that inspected your car seeing that it is their responsibility to make sure everything is legal and safe

where i learned to drive at, they teach people to look away from light and use the line on the shoulder at the end of the pavement to momentarily avoid being blinded....


but thats just my new yorker talking.... it is irresponsible, but more so inconsiderate to not modify them, but i wonder how bad it is from the other perspective? I see the BMW people and newer model cars with their projectors and it seems like theyre blinding me and others as well, and their cars are dot approved, i look away when i see them coming

It's your responsibility. In the paperwork for your insurance you will have agreed that you have declared everything and the car is legal and roadworthy.

I used to have HIDs in my projectors which wasn't legal so i can't preach too much, but you need to know the score. I got flashed a couple of times even though they were pointing the right way! They are damn bright, those projectors, i definitely wouldn't want to pass you going the other way with the wrong beam pattern.



imagaine how bright it is when the beam is actually directed at you then
