I've learned it when I was young, you get what you pay for

my ultimate celica contains a gt4 front end with jdm tail and head lamps, a set of trd splitters, skirts, rear bumper diffusers and wing

i am a fan of body kits that don't look to ricey or look like you over did it I lived in VA for 6 years and noticed a lot of cars with ebay kits (yuck) but every now and then you'd see some official ones but its all on personal preference I would find a nice one for my car but I love in Michigan and it wont do anything but tear it up

i too, given up on aftermarket, unless, they are from toyota TRD, c-one or any other brand in japan that took time to make it fit right...don't trust any USA aftermarket bumper...STAY away from Extreme Dimmension....lousy company with poor customer service for crappy fitment.

Shame you're not in the UK because I think nearly every 6G owners in the UK think like this.
Also if you was here you'd have access to our products which unlike most fabricators, we set a very high standard.

yes veilside body kit is consider to be ugly now. But you have to remember preferences and taste changes over time.

Back in the mid 90's all the car manufactures wanted to their cars to be futuristic (the bubble stage). The body kits of that time was suppose to draw attention- be dramatic- and completely blow the pubic out of the water (which was use to seeing a boxy design.)



This is the rational for the veilside body kit. They attempted to create a flow design or similar to the "new" Mazda Nagare (aka flow) design. Basically this design was suppose to mimic the graceful fluttering of fabric as it travels through the wind.

If you look at the front bumper and skirts of the celica and compare it to this car. You can see subtle cues of the similar design.





To respond to your complaint about the kit not matching the car. Well the veilside body kit was design to be over the top like you said, but that was the number one reason why it was so popular in the first place. That help them set themselves apart and establish there name.

Ten years from now we would think the fortune kit from them would be ugly also




My kryptonic body kit would be a generic veilside body kit, poorly mounted, and on a car that never will be painted to match.
My favorite body kit for the celica would have to be an authentic veilside body kit. Its iconic depiction of a celestial dragon running on clouds.

I'm down for the midwest meet if I can make it! If you really want a trip, drive out to ToyotaFest 2011 with me haha. It was a blast last year! I think this first or second week in June is out annual Midwest Corolla meet at Busse Woods, we always have a great turnout!

This is something I hate having to explain to people about my car... Around here body kits aren't very popular (at all) but I have mine and it sticks out a good bit. Personally I've never liked body kits of any kind on anything unless they serve a purpose and wouldn't have put one back on mine if it didn't do just that: It's only there to cover up the god-aweful rust damage that the jackwagon that put it on originally left by not doing it right the first time...

Therefore I went ahead and took 2 months to mold it on as best I could after school everyday between working and skating, bummed rides everywhere, begged for money for Bondo and fiberglass, etc etc... I love the look of our cars stock or GT4 front converted, with the exception of the rear bumper. I kinda feel like someone forgot to draw the bottom of it. But anyone who likes the big kits is entitled to their opinions and I don't rag on them. I saw Fast and Furious too and wanted my mom to paint our BMW orange and green... It's all good lol

I agree with the majority on here that big body kits aren't necessarily the best looking, but when done right any body kit can really compliment our cars. My project car has a veilside knock off on it which isn't my taste but I bought the car with it installed already. The kit was fully painted to match the car and molded onto the body so it looks really nice. I'll end up changing it down the road most likely but that will come after everything else
