Just wanted to know cause my car has been at the shop and they were waiting for a ignition coil for it. When I called to see if my car was ready they told me to come tomorrow cause they got the wrong ignition coil cause apparently my car is from Cali and the ignition coils are different than a non cali emissions ignition coil. Is there a way to know if my car is a Cali emissions car for future reference.

Easiest way that I know is the dizzy. Fed spec have 4 wires (coil inside) and cali spec have 5 wires (external coil). On top of that it should say somewhere on one of the stickers under the hood.

Their should be a sticker on your hood that tells you if you have FED or CALI spec emission car if you have a cali spec the coil would be external located under the igniter if you have a fed spec it would be located inside the distributor.

Great. Don't have that hood anymore cause I did the GT-4 conversion on it. I bought the car from NJ dealer and thought it was a FED car not Cali. Guess I should have gotten the "Carfax".

if you dont have a firewall mounted coil (pre 96) then you have a federal car.
all 96+ are cali spec. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

cali spec where the primary o2 sensor is, there should be another 02 sensor as a back up on the 94-95 for obd1, for obd2, there's those two in the front...pre-cat o2 sensor (your PRIMARY), post-cat o2 sensor (back-up) and finally another where the catalyic conv is.

Where as an external (5 wires) vs internal (4 wires) coil is plain as day. Maybe your auto is cali spec (which I didnt know that it was all 96+, but it makes sense) and your manual is a fed spec? |
