what i'm building for my gt-four conversion set-up. front calipers on top of a 3lb sledge hammer.

there are a lot of options from twin caliper setup all the way to 8 piston calipers, but I think the point of this was for a budget and user friendly upgrade, I don't think there is any other caliper upgrade easier than this, and as affordable as this.

^^^, the purpose is to keep it cheap. And this is as cheap as it gets. LOL. Like said, i dont want to pay more than 500 for brakes, this car is a toy, not a racecar..

and to those that need measures, i have been really busy with work, and my car is under a cover under snow.. so, i will try to do it as soon as i can.

If you could measure the stock GT caliper pistons I would greatly appreciate it. I could make a write-up on brake bias for us 6th geners.

Will you be able to run the stock 15's on the Deuce's??? Cuz looking at your pics looks like you'd have to do 16's at the least.

so essentially 25.4mm pistons, both pistons? Thats doesnt seem right. Whats the OD of the piston? To get an accurate reading of the piston side you have the push the piston out of the caliper and measure it that way.


For example to st165 caliper piston diameter is 37mm. leading and trailing piston.

now with my set-up ls430 calipers all the way around with 315mm rotors front and back my brake bias will be 64%

Outer diameter is 3.6 cm, i forgot to add that.

Can you measure the stock celica caliper piston? Both front and rear caliper for me. Just wanted to see how big of an upgrade this is for the GT celicas.

will try tomorrow, the rear caliper most likely not tomorrow. its in the car. I get off work at 6 am and go back at 3, dont want to dissasemble.. lol

no no understandable. I would go out to my project car which is a GT but too cold and tired from working to much.

I repeat go to Pages 6-8 for an actual brake caliper twin piston upgrade!

so by the looks of the pic the celica gt and mr2 twin turbo brake pads are different. Where did you buy the mr2 pads from are they oem or aftermarket?

You dont have to completely push it out just remove the boot and push it out a little because the OD is different on the cylinder itself. Do both front and rears for me so I can calculate the sock brake bias. Then we can go from there on upgraded brake parts for cheap.

I've found the specs of the calipers for the ST202's

The single piston caliper specs (SS-II):
Piston Diameter: 57mm
Piston Count: 1
Total Piston Area: 2551.76mm² (25.5176cm²)

The twin piston caliper specs (SS-III):
Piston Diameter: 40.4mm
Piston Count: 2
Total Piston Area: 2563.79mm² (25.6379cm²)

Basically they cover the same area, but you should get even distribution of pressure on the pads with the 2 pots.


and then compared to the MR2 calipers
Piston Diameter: 36mm
Piston Count: 2
Total Piston Area: 2035.75mm² (20.3575cm²)

Damn so the brake bias gets shifted to the back that's no dice at the track. Although it will take less effort to lock the front up.

dang, so basically its a non-upgrade... LOL. well i love the looks of 2 pistons...

But then again, its upgrade to the MR2, imagine that... anyways... I still love them..

The specs that Rusty posted, the single piston caliper is different from the USDM caliper, isn't it? I would still think that the MR2 caliper would be an upgrade from the single-piston stock caliper.
