LMAO!!
i dont think so, guys.
unfortunately, jim hasnt had a chance to get plates up to me for the car, and is planning to come up to pick it up this weekend.
tweak did his version of a code 54 fix, which did not work, and since the original wiring for the IC pump isnt there (he did his thing in by the ECU), im having a hard time getting my fix to work. he also failed to mention that since the 3rd ecu plug is part of the body harness, i had to add a wire to it for the level sensor for the IC system, and ground that as well.
just a little snag, that im sure we will overcome, but just one of those things i wish i had been told about, so i wouldnt have to spend time screwing with it, figuring it out for myself, when jim paid to have it all done before i ever got the car.
assuming the weather holds out long enough for him to come up, he's gonna pick up the alltrac, and drop off his 6th gen, along with 3 motors.
one 3rd gen 3s to go into the 6th gen for them to use as a DD when the alltrac comes back up for the next motor, and a 2nd gen 3s built bottom end, and a 3rd gen for me to use as a parts motor to complete it.
i am going to use the 2nd gen built bottom end, 3rd gen oiling system, and head to build the base of what will be the monster that goes into the alltrac down the road a bit.
now THAT is gonna be a hell of a project, i plan on pulling out all the stops on that one. hehe

WOW! Jim was telling me a bit about building a forged bottom end, what kind of power numbers are you guys thinking? What turbo setup? This is all awesome!! So many 3S's!!

you know me, i detail pretty much everything i do.

the quick run down is that you need to drill a tap some holes in the bottom of the block for the 3rd gen windage tray and baffle, and weld a fitting onto the 3rd gen oil cooler to return coolant to the back of the 2nd gen block.
im sure there are a few more minor details, but thats the 2 major things.
is supossed to snow here on the EC tonight/tommorow, so i am not sure if jim is gonna come get the car this week.
on the good side, we've been getting regular updates from jeff @ racerx fab. on the exhaust manifold he is building for jim, and man...this thing is lookin SEXY.

you can say that again man! i cant wait to see this thing all done.
crazy part is this is a "cheap" manifold by his (jeff @ racerx) standards.
his high end manifolds use all 321 stainless (this one is 304 sch.10 pipe)
burns stainless double slip collectors (~500$, JUST for the collector)
and allll v-bands.
they run 1500-1900, depending on application.
this one will be under 1k.

I will be going with a Precision 5857 for turbo choice. I plan on making 500AWHP at around 20-22psi on pump gas...and 600+AWHP on race gas. It will be a long time before I am comfortable enough with the 500AWHP tune at the track I am sure, to feel safe taking a pass at the 600+awhp tune. For now, the race gas tune will be for $hits and giggles, just to see what it will make at 30+psi. It will also be a good bit of information to see how well my setup is flowing, and where/when/what my next restriction in the build will/may be.

we're just planning on having the head refreshed for him while its all apart, and throwing in some (IIRC) kelford or whatever 268 cams.
he's coming up today to pick it up, since the 6th gen is still burried under snow, he isnt bringing that now, just the 2 motors for me to work on.
so, once they get here, this will turn into the motor build thread.
a teaser of whats to come.

hehehe i cannot wait!

So I finally had some time to go out to the garage, and work with jims motors a little.
I got the built 2nd gen block up on a stand, and immediately noticed a major problem.
the deck on the block is all pitted up and damaged, which i think would cause big leak problems down the road.
heres a couple pics of what im talking about.

the pic quality isnt the greatest, ( i took them with my ipod) but its pretty easy to see the damage.

So, I called Jim, and talked to him about the issue.
After he talked it over with his bro, he called me, and discussed the option of just ordering a new set of pistons and rings, and building a stroker, using shannons old 98 5s block, which I agreed was a great idea.
To save shipping time and cost, I told him i would just use jenns old 98 5s block, and he could just bring me shannons the next time he comes up.
So, thats what we're now going to do.
That said, the new build list looks somthing like this:
98 5s block
2nd gen 3s crank
arias rods
forged pistons (not sure on brand yet, prolly weisco's)
3rd gen head with supertech stock sized valves, prolly engle springs and 268* cams
3rd gen oil system
RacerX custom side feed intake manifold
RacerX custom top mount exhaust manifold
precison BB 5857
tial 38mm wastegate
3" turbo back exhaust
at least 800cc injectors
Power FC EMS
should be good for ~500AWHP @ ~20 or so psi.

should be a fun build!
now I need to do some research on the proper machine work, and what that will cost do have done locally.
pics as progress as made.

i dont think you are going to see 500AWHP in 20-22 psi with that turbo. its possible but i doubt it. also Im never using supertech valves ever again. twice now in 2ZZ applications the head of the valve broke off the stem and caused all sorts of bad stuff to happen. one was an engien I built and the other was an engine that a VERY reputable engine builder built. im going with Ferrea valves from now on!

Oh one more thing, you need a bigger wastegate than the 38MM. if you are gonna go big, you need a 44MM at a minimum. I dont care what anyone else says or what you might have heard. i have been doing this for a long time and you will see boost creep witha 38MM wastegate

the guy who is making the intake and ehxuast manifold for this project made 507whp @ 18psi, with just about the same setup only he's using HKS cams, and 1mm oversize valves, jims got 268 cams, and plans on running stock valves.
heres the build thread
http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=4074...age=1&pp=30
ferrea's had an issue with the faces deforming over time in the 3s application not too long ago..im not picking the parts, anyway, im just putting it all together for them, and making suggestions along the way.
