Just to chime in here and there...but.... aside from what i my info might say, i have been on this site since 2005/2006, and this place is a very helpful site. And i could continue to say more of what others have said, yet i guess ill be the rain on the parade and say that the one drawback and downside to this site is....... The lack of "fluid" information. And what i am specifically targetting with this, is the stickies.
Honestly the one main thing that starts many of that "spats" btwn new-comers/the in-experianced, and the forum-gurus/knowledgable ppl is the lack of posted or well known info. And what i mean, is that while there are many stickies, and there can never be enough to cover every little topic that is continually brought up on this site, there are still tons of info that could be...stickied. I mean really, its great that people search, but is it really necessary to always have to "search" for the ECU pinout of the 2nd or 3rd gen 3sgte? Much less make a post about it. WHY ISNT THIS TYPE OF INFO EASILY AND READILY AVAILABLE FOR THOSE SEEKING IT? Anywho, this is just my observation. There is a serious lack of readily available info on this site. Other than that, yes this is a great site. Yes the people here are awesome to chat with, and share a positive appreciation of one another. And no there isnt the whole a-holish attitude that you see on other sites. Yet, back to my opinion....there is a lack of "should be" known info easily and readily available. Maybe it would help to STEM the amount of (relatively few) conflicts that could be resolved by just lookin at the top of the page a person is veiwing. And also i know that if an asshole decides to run his mouth there really isnt much that can be said or done about that aside from an insta-ban?? -------------------- (\__/)

I'm new here, and i have not received a warmer welcome. I used to have a DSM, and when i joined the forums for that, all i got was ridicule and criticism. I'll be the first to admit, I know jack about working on cars. That's why I turn to forums, and that's what 6gc helps me with most. I enjoy the friendly opinions that go against mine, gives me perspective. (I think I still like my panda idea, despite everyone telling me no...lol)
This forum is kept clean, I'm happy i found it, and wont leave. It's because of threads like this that people watch what they say. -------------------- |

I feel most of us (senior members) here at 6gc have an odd sense of humor sometimes because of our history of dealing with each other on this forum over the past several years and for people who are newer they might not understand it and take offense. some of us like myself enjoy busting peoples balls and getting it back in return. just all in good fun. this is by far the best kept forum ive ever been on and is full of easy accessible information. My advice for newer members that got a few jokes thrown there way about their car or anything i would say to take it with a grain of salt. not only are we 6gc enthusiasts but we are car enthusiast.

I do agree that more information could be stickied. Not so much stickied, there really isn't a need for more threads. We should just add info to the threads. I'm a member on my.IS as well as here, but I prefer this site by and far. The only advantage that my.IS has over 6gc is in the stickies themselves. Each how-to, DIY, and FAQ thread has part numbers. I wish we could edit our 6gc stickies to include part numbers every time a specific part is mentioned. Other than that, I'm good with 6gc how it is. We've all had our share of stupid threads and posts. It's part of being new and getting a feel for the forum. If you can't handle being told to search, and essentially learning how to help yourself, then there's probably a good reason you aren't still on the site. The ones that can handle being told to search learn to search, accept any help they're given, and stick around the site. And each member that does that makes the site a little bit better.

I do like the idea of the P/N thing, but I guess its going to depend on who writes the thread?
But on topic. I've noticed that some newer members have copped an attitude with some of the more senior guys. And vice versa, I try to stay out of that kind of stuff, although it happens that I get sucked into something stupid every now and then. This post has been edited by Spider77: Feb 3, 2011 - 8:55 PM |

I'll even chime in and (like anytime i post) make this thread epic jp Honnestly my thoughts: 1- This is a repost. This pops up ever 6-8 months. Within the next 1-2 months there will be the ever so famous "the modd's are mean to me" thread too. 1a- It does always give a solid reminder to everyone though. And usualy lasts up untill about a month before the next one. 2- As always with these "NewGen/OldGen" threads, I agree with OP, and all posts so far (including the "what's up" to piro, and Andrew's post- lol) Andrew got the nail on the head with his point "C". The new guys who get burned to the point of leaving are the ones that join and start building a reputation bassed on things they "intend" to do. (GT4Solder's epic 2 post's before being banned comes to mind...) witch he's settled down and done some learnin and is okay in my book now. So no offense by that example. it's just a preimum example. 2a- It's never a good idea to build a reputation on what you havene't done. 2b- As a senior member, looking at a fresh face, How do you know they haven't actualy done it before? (i had that problem, I ran several swaps/boost projects with a different car community before getting a celica and finding my way here. And was a noob here. Although i humbly asked for information and lived in the search for a few months before talking anything) 2c- And that's how i justify myself when i tell people to search. I've done it. It's helped. 3- Search feature really is your friend. Because not only do you learn the answer to your question, You learn the other questions you should have been asking. AND their answers. (EX: Someone totaly new to boost would ask "what injectors to use" and learn that he also needs a fuel pump. Witch pump? Oh a Walbro225lhp, Gotit) 4- I do endorse the non flame thing. Unless you're not listening. Then i believe you deserve what you get. (I use the teq. on all my trainee's at work. I cannot teach you what you refuse to learn) 5- and most importantly we are a community. Each member has a different face, personality, taste, style, likes and dislikes. That should absolutely be respected at all times. From Ricer to Restorer. (be it a 4 Ft razor wing with vertical doors, or removing a stock wing and replacing aftermarket with the origonal yellow side markers) It's our differences that make us unique. And or difference of understanding as a community that makes us unique aginst all other fourms. With that said; NO is still haven't learned to spell. D-man, FTMFBBQW. #1: 'nuff said. QFT. #2a,b,c: again, QFT. thats a problem i have been guilty of myself, and have learned over the years to never assume that just because someone is new to the site, that they are new to automotive work, or celicas specificly. #3: god, i wish i could get every single member to understand this. #4: the no flaming thing is one of the cornerstones of this site, IMO. it makes everyone more confortable asking questions and starting discussions about things they otherwise may not for fear of being made fun of, or bashed. #5: this is prolly the most important one, and somthing i personally take pride in being a part of. our diffrences is what brings us together, otherwise everyones car would look exactly the same, and what fun would that be? while we encourage everyone to give theyre opinions, good or bad, we do insist that everyone be respectfull. it pretty much comes down to this. if you cant say somthing nice, or consructive, without being rude, just dont post. that said, after 8+ years here, i can honestly say without a doubt this is the BEST 6th gen celica resource on the 'net, and that aint changin anytime soon, thanks to all of you. we all continue to push the community forward, and come up with new and exciting things to do to our cars to make them suit our personalitys and styles. just remember guys, your no better or worse than the person who posts above or below you, no matter how long you been doing this, how much money you make, where your from, or where you've been. we are all here to help each other, and THAT is what makes this site great. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)
