How do I remove what I colored lime green? I've seen two screws by the seats and two more towards the front close to the pedals and the glove compartment. Are there any others?

Pull out the trim around the shft boot and there are some more screws in there.

Edit: What are you trying to do exactly? Install short shifter?

Well, to remove the lime green areas only you will need to get a dremel, and mark which areas you want to remove, then cut them out..

Now the smarter thing to do would be to just remove those panels where the green is. This can be done by simply removing the screws...

Yeah, I wanna remove those panels because if I just remove the center console and the shifter trim, I don't have enough room to work with.

I know... lol. My question was if there were more screws than what I mentioned.

Take out the bolts in the center console and take off your shift knob and remove the plastic trim around your shift boot. There are screws in there.

That piece requires a quite a bit of work to take out, but it's doable. You'll pretty much have to remove a bunch of other stuff to remove that panel. First you'll remove the shifter surround, which will reveal 4 screws. 2 for the radio trim piece/climate control, and 2 for the center console. Remove all 4 of those screws, and then remove your radio trim. For the center console, it's 2 12mm bolts inside the storage area, and then a small 2 wire plug for the ashtray light. Lift it straight up and back towards the rear of the car, and then up from the parking brake handle. Now you're getting pretty close.

Now, look at the climate controls. You will see four more screws in that area. 2 holding in the climate control, and 2 more holding in the trim piece you are trying to remove. Take those out. Your climate control will not slide out yet. You will have to open your hood and undo the black cable held in by a metal clip. You will see it located on the firewall close to where your throttle body is. Once that one is free, go back inside your car, and go into the the driver side foot well area. You might as well remove the screw for the desired trim piece while you're down here. Look inside behind the trim piece and you'll see a blue cable this time for the climate control. Remove that. Now you'll be able to slide the climate control unit out and unplug the 3 harnesses connected to it. Then finally get that screw that connects to the lower left hand side of the glove box.

You may have to remove your glove box and the panel under the steering wheel for more clearance. It sounds like a lot of work, because it is. Which short shifter did you get? I've never had any problems installing a short shifter with that panel in place. Yeah it would be easier to have more room, but you can do it without removing that panel. If you want, I can take some pictures for you if you have any questions.

I got the 7gc short shifter. When I tried installing it by just removing the shifter surround and center console, I couldn't get my ratchet in there because I had such limited space.

So when I reassmbled my shifter, that big pin that goes through the front of it would extend far enough for me to put the clip back on. I tried so hard to get it to come out more and nothing. So I put the OEM shifter back in and for some reason, same problem! Even though it stuck out far enough in the first place. Any insight, guys?

Is that it? That's kinda of a big space to grab with vice grips..

I think i know what your talking about, a little ring slides onto the end of the pin and acts as a clip. Right?

Exactly. The pin is about 1.5mm short than what it used to be. With the 7th gen shifter and the stock shifter re-installed. Something's up.

Be sure the spring on the other end is on correctly, push the pin as far in as you can, put the ring on the end and put a socket over that end of the pin and tap with a small hammer. You can place the shifter assembly against a flat surface to hold the pin in place. I don't suggest this being the correct way to do it, but it worked for me. :-P
Make sense at all?

I don't really have much time to attend to this issue, so as a temp fix, and I know it's stupid, but it should work, I secured the lock washer to the pin using Gorilla Glue. Since it's not a high-stress area, I think it should hold. I just needed a quick temp fix. I welcome the scolds now lol
