Alright guys...
I'm assuming this is a gen7 (seeing as the picture is stolen from 'new celica.org') I'm wondering if these are exactly the same on the gen 6? Does it have front and rear central jacking points? The reason I'm asking this is I'm getting a strange rubbing and creaking sound from the passenger side which is easily audible when setting off from a stand still and if changing into second at low revs, looks like the pads are actually touching the disc?? Here's a photo taken while the wheel is still on: Circled in red...the brake disc and pad are actually touching, there's still ability to spin the wheel freely (I jacked it up real quick yesterday to see what sound came back when spinning the wheel) but it does make a rubbing sound, area circled in blue...is that scoring or just signs of a used disc?. Still need confirmation on where I can jack/axle stand the car properly though! If anyone has any photo's I'd be dead grateful |

it is supposed to have a bit of resistance, if it spinns without any than your brakes need to be adjusted. atleast that is what i was told by all of the instructors at school. looks like you need new rotors and pads.. that scorring looks not so bad, i have seen much worse out on the roads.

Ok cool, thanks for that! You think the weird creaking could be down to top mounts or something then?

I think the 6gen is a bit wider on the "axle stand" spots. When I jack the car up, from the front I use the cross member to jack and place the stands where the scissor jack goes, and as for the rear (being that i've only done that a few times) I look for the best spot and jack away. Again, using the spot where the scissor jack goes to place the stands.

the creaking noise you are hearing may be what is common, what happens is when the lube on the back of the brake pads and the tabs wear away there will be a creaking noise, also sometimes when you used the brakes there may be a loud clicking noise, this would most likley be the pads being pushed into place on the caliper. common on some toyotas. at least thats what the TSB said on the computers at school.

take the calipers off and buy some siliglide, lube the metal brakets that hold the pads in place and lube the back side of the pads, it will most likley get rid of the noise. as for the screeching, discribe screeching.. does it sound more brakes related or a creeking noise when you use the brakes. if its screeching i would say replace the rotors and pads.

Yeah as far as where to place jack stands and where to put the jack that what i do also, but my stands i cut slots in them with my grinder so the slots would fit firmly into them and hold in place
