If they badge it kia, then there is the Kia Forte, if they badge it hyndai, then there is the genesis, if the badge it anything else, then it will be a piece of crap...

What difference would the badge make when its the exact same car as the one that will be released in japan? Obviously excluding the fact that it's RHD. Fact will be Toyota and Subaru made it regardless of the badge. A toyota badge will not make it perform better or give it more horsepower. And even if it they did badge it scion (yes i do hate scion) I'll be ripping that badge off and puting a toyota badge on it right when i get it anyway.

Believe me, it makes a lot of difference to me..

why slap a gtr badge on a nissan sunny.

why slap vtec on a evo.

If the badge was not meant for the car, then it probably should not go there.

Car brand has a lot to do with people's choice. For example.. Geo was essentially the same car as corolla in the 90's and yet people preferred toyota even though cars we not that different.

Almost all cars have sort of unspoken understanding to them. Mention el-camino and people are like "ohh okay" even though el-camino might be on its last legs. Mention a supra and any male knows what that is. Mention a prius and every one knows what that is.

Likewise naming of car is very important. People like putting numbers. M3, Z4, IS430 just to name a few. Car name must speak for itself.

Once again lets not put cart ahead of the horse. Just because subaru is working on a concept does not mean they will actually make one as a production model.
Recently it was pointed out that production of mitsubishi evo brand has halted in foreseeable future which leaves subaru with a lot more potential to sell their impreza models. They also have a potential to sell them cheaper pending there is a less "developed" model such as ft-86. In other words their version of ft-86 could potentially become a rear wheel drive option less horse powered version of impreza wrx brand (if they ever decide to proceed with their concept).

As I am horrified by what is happening in Japan I would like to point out another concern that I have. With all the loss of life and loss of property... Japan is about to enter some really difficult times. Toyota may be donating millions for humanitarian relief thus offsetting its original goal of releasing ft-86.

Now providing they have plants all over the world I cant say with certainty that earthquake/tsunami will have a significant impact on toyota operations.

All I got was a stupid countdown. After some googlein I came up with this "Scion Unveils a New Dimension at the New York Auto Show with All-New 2011 iQ and tC Production Models" And that the dimension was pretty much like the Hyundai Adrenaline Tour. But who really knows anymore?

Yeah, last year Scion unveiled the "new" 2011 tC and the iQ. I think this year we'll see the FT-86 unveiled and maybe a definitive launch date for the iQ.

I hope this doesn't become a Scion, I really do.

I really don't care if it is. It's built by Toyota either way. The only way I'll care is if they make it gutless, which the reports seem to dismiss with the talk of a 2.0 turbo sex machine under the hood. I'm waiting with much anticipation. Saving has already started.

At first I wasn't really feeling the Scion branding idea but now I feel like you do; it's Toyota built and will be the first Toyota in a long-time to really pull me in. I've started saving as well to purchase one.

Come on guys, all so interested in this car until it may be a scion? What's wrong with adding Toyota badges, some non scion wheels, and a Toyota steering wheel? All affordable mods. It IS the same thing scion or Toyota...if they were pricing it the same and putting Lexus badges on it you guys would all be liking it even more..haha funny how much a badge means..

I can't wait for this car no matter what happens...worst case scenario, even if it's a gutless pos it will be something new and IMO exciting to see driving around, even if I don't want one.

It's not the badge that worries me, it's what Scion stands for. Firstly, it would be silly to make it anything other than a Toyota because FT-86 pays homage to the AE86...and also stands for FUTURE TOYOTA. Every other 16-18-year-old drives a tC not because it's such a good vehicle, but because it offers the right amenities at the right price. In short, a Corolla for
people who aren't close to dying. I don't want as fantastic of a promise as this concept to be ceded to Scion, I want a Toyota badge on this bad mother****er.

A turbo boxer is welcome, along with some blue ovals and random stars.
