Im in need of changeing my thermostat and is wondering if anyone can help me out a lil bit, also I see that theres some mocha colored gunk in my oil cap, does that mean i have a leaky headgasket? My car takes a long time to warm up , im thinkin due to the thermostat being stuck open, could that be the cause of the coolant gettin mixed in my oil? No smoke or nothing just finding the mocha stuff under my oil cap.

If your coolant is mixing with your oil its your headgasket that is the problem, not the thermostat

the cap collects that crap, what does the coolant look like? regardless you need to replace the thermostat. is this an ST or GT. search my rebuild threads i have tons of pics where they are

I think it means people cry blown head gasket too easily and don't fully know what they're talking about.

Thats what Im leaning towards. If all you other fluids look fine (oil, coolant) then change the thermostat. Then just keep an eye on things. I had the same issue for a bit (as far as taking forever to warm up), but changed my thermostat and it warms up fairly quick (as opposed to before).
And I see you have the GT. So changing out the thermostat is kind of a pain as the compressor (if you have ac) and oil filter get in the way. But remove the water neck (two 10 mm nuts, real soft too so be careful) along with the lower radiator hose and you'll see your thermostat. Just make sure that if you get one with a "jiggle valve" you align it with the mark on the water neck. Reinstall and hook everything back up, refill and your good to go. And I replaced my crap nuts with some nylon locknuts (as they are not as soft).

lol its easy to change out on a gt, took me about 10 minutes and im lazy. find that how to it helps!

Replacing the thermostat in the GT is pretty easy. Just be sure to take the oil filter off to get some leverage on the 10 mm bolts holding the housing. The pitchcock to drain the coolant is right below where you'd think it is on the front left, however you will need to take off at least one of the plastic underbody panels, just a few 14mm bolts there. Before you pull the radiator hoses off make sure you press them firmly to push any fluids out, believe me it can get messy.
