Well the axle isn't on yet, but the spindle or whatever it's called has some play in it. I'm going to guess that that is not suppose to be like that, but it's not like it's anything serious, right? I still have the whole knuckle, hub thingy (People call it different things lol) that was originally on there, but the axle is stuck on it for now. I'm hoping to get that off asap and then swap the two assemblies back out cause I want that one back on there.
Since there is play, it's probably the wheel bearing that is starting to go. When I drove my parts car, for the few times I did, I didn't hear any noises. |

so you have the hub pressed in the knuckle? and its not attatched to the axle shaft yet. if it has play and it made no noise you could have what i had and the hub is bad... the only problem with that is you cant buy a hub anywhere besides at the dealership, or if you want to chance it you could go to a junk yard. my hub from the dealer was $130

Yes, the hub is pressed into the knuckle, and the hub has some play. I have another knuckle and hub that I had to take off my car because my axle nut was stuck on there lol Once I get the axle off of that hub and knuckle, I'm going to swap it back out. How long can I drive on a semi-bad hub for? Like a month or two?

i drove mine for about 7 months.. at the time i never really drive the car far or on the highway or anything. once i moved to chicago to go to school it was highway driving everyday. personally for my own experiance.. get what you need done now that the car is all appart because the last thing you want is to take it all appart a month or two down the road. trust me i tell in you from experiances lol. and the one thing that ticked me off the most was you will need and alignment after you do it.. so the more time you do it the more and more times you will need an alignment to fix the toe, and sometimes the small adj. of camber.

I dont think it will be more than a month until I get the axle off the other hub, once it's off I'll be swapping it in ASAP. I dont do much highway driving right now so I should be all set with that.
As for an update, I got the engine out. No pics of me taking it out, but I will get a few for your guys! |

I can't tell exactly what part you are talking about, but there is play in the hub? Sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me.
Edit: I just read the above posts. Be careful driving on bad hubs and bearings. The hubs warp with so free play from the blown bearing and you will need a whole new one (bout 150 from Toyota). The free play will also start messing with your brake rotors and possibly the CV axle as well if you wait long enough. Oh and last but not least, it will be the most annoying noise in the world when you drive, haha. So here's my updated:
Engine has been painted, I think it looks great though I didn't take it apart! Starting to reassemble it now and hopefully will get the tranny mounted to the engine today. I removed the ABS module, MC, and lines, and got the Non ABS MC and lines in yesterday. The clutch MC and petal are in there and In swapped over the manual brake petal too. Painted the engine bay black and probably did a few other things lol Pics: Under glow on the crash bar^ Before Paint: After Paint: (colors: Black & Old Ford Blue) Engine Bay & Etc (before) After: The old ABS stuff: |

anyway, disregard the last post.
Well I got the engine all tied up, got the tranny on, and put all the wiring together. then did the vac lines as well. Then Dustin & Steph came over and we dropped the engine in. The hardest part was getting the rear mount in (at first). I had the Kirk Inserts on both the front and rear mounts, but we could just not get the rear one in with the inserts on. Dustin took them off, went under the bay, not even 30 seconds later the mount was in. Then, the rear bolt was a pain in the a$$ to get in as well. There wasn't much else after that, just hooked up all the lines and wires in the bay, and by that time it was already 11:30pm. I still have a lot more to finish up on the engine, but I'll have to leave it for Sunday since it's going to be raining tomorrow. To Dustin & Steph, I thank you so much for helping me out with the whole engine install, I would not have been able to do it without you guys! |
