Hey all!

For those Of you running a air to air front mount intercooler on your 3rd gen 3s how did you prevent the ecu from cutting your timing (limp mode).... Because the ecu realizes the intercooler pump is not running.

I have a 3sgte 3rd gen in my car and I dont want a gt4 hood (keep it stealthy) so I put a oversized intercooler rad and thermal wrapped the heat exchanger and wired one of my two fans to be on full time so air is always being pulled through the exchanger, but of course due to heat I want the pump to run with ignition So how do I get around the timing cut?

Thanks for your help guys!

my engine just overheated and i blew my turbo seals because of that.

i ignored the fact that my pump wasnt moving water and fixed the CEL light only for that to happen.

not only had to replace a $100 pump and $120 sensor for hacking the wires, but also had to replace my turbo (alot more than that).

if you wish to proceed though, just snip the wires going to the sensor and join them together. they dont need a resistor, just complete the circuit.

Well from what I am reading code 54 will cause limp mode (54 is any fault with intercooler system) and if the ecu is not controlling your IC pump a check engine light will occur (code 54)

Mine is set up right now with a separate relay triggered off ignition so as soon as I turn my key on I have the intercooler pump running, so the ecu thinks their is no pump hooked up and throws a check engine light.

I personally don't think it is in limp mode cause it runs perfect and boosts hard... But I wanted to find out what others did

i chose to purchase a new stock sensor, after having a failure like this, i'd more rather a light come up on my dash than not.

i don't think there is a need to full time run the pump, when you're not moving theres no flow across the intercooler anyways, i mean.. where you going to drive to in Neutral at high boost?
