I was looking at getting the JDM rear lights for my car, and I dont think those are Illegal.. I read the info about how the projectors aren't DOT approved, but what exactly makes them illegal in the US and Canada? They look so awesome and damn I'd pay the money to get them! Anyone know>?

I have heard that its because they blind oncomming traffic (in japan they drive on the left so they are aimed a lil to the left). I think the rear lights are 100% leagal, and if there not i would be suprised if you get pulled over for em.

The lights can be adjusted so that they point to the right more and don't blind oncoming drivers. They were also available in countries that drive on the right, like in the US, so they're made to be adjustable. wink.gif

They're illegal simply because they don't have the DOT approval, since they were never available in North America. I don't think you'd run into any troubles with them aimed correctly. I'd imagine most cops would never know, and those who do know that they're JDM parts are obviously interested in sixth generation Celicas and would probably be impressed. wink.gif

almost all the 94 and up toyota's that I have seen all have adjustable headlights so I'm guessing so do the projectors.

yes they are adjustable both up and down and left and right, as usual. they are just not US DOT approved, that's why they are "illegal". smile.gif.

i don't have a celica...i have a 90 ae92 corolla coupe...

but, i do have JDM silvia projectors in the car (don't ask... it's not done and it's a headache in this WA weather).... they aren't even aimed right...

i have yet to get pulled over, and i'm running brighter Koito H3C's in them as well.. (very bright)... i'm guessing cops just for the most part wouldn't know one way or another unless they got up close and looked for a DOT approval stamp (and those are generally tiny)

alright... alright...

Technically... yes they're illegal like everyone said...

Now if you're concerned about getting caught ... and fined... for having the projectors and jdm tails, this is highly unlikely...

as you can see:

they are bright.... i don't have problems with getting pulled over (passed numerous cops in several cities)... the only problem i get is every now and then someone will flicker their highbeams at me thinking i have mine on

Any problems when you go to get inspection, etc? Wouldn't they check your headlights and realize they weren't USDM.. or something?

*dumbass question, sorry*

at least here in WA, when you get emissions they don't check anything like that....and if they did, (if it looks right) i'm sure the tennant wouldn't be able to tell if it's usdm or not...

also, i live in a county (now, not before) that doesn't have emissions or testing like that
